Back on the road in the morning, Carl and I once again have to figure where we are and go from there.
It turns out that we actually were way closer to the warehouse than we were before. About ten minutes ago we turned onto the street that the warehouse is on. As for the Morales family, well hopefully we meet again.
Are hands are linked together, are clothes and skin filthy, but he's got me and I've got him.
The scratch on my shoulder has actually scabbed over, so I know it wasn't deep enough.
Sounds of birds and insects are everywhere, the sun bright.
"On your knees now!" I hear, a noise coming from behind us in the woods.
What now? I glance at Carl and we both pull are guns out at the exact same time, spinning around to face whoever it is.
I watch in fear as someone emerges from the woods, Daryl to be exact.
"Daryl!" I say and spring at him. Daryl holds out his arms and I jump into them, him picking me slightly off the ground and swaying us back and forth.
"We though you were dead. Saw the bus." Daryl says. I can tell he's trying to not get emotional.
He sets me down on my feet and Carl walks over to him, them exchanging nods, the guy way of hugging.
"Is Maggie ok?" I ask.
"And my Dad and Judith?" Carl adds.
"They're fine. Everyone found their way here." Daryl answers. He leads us over to the door of the warehouse.
The warehouse is a tall grey building, with a 13 printed on the side of the building. We step through the door, and I notice that there is not a lot of anything in here. It's mostly big open spaces, with some of those cart things that lift crates to shelves.
Different sleeping bags and such are laid out everywhere. When I see a girl with short brown hair sitting near a baby crib, I feel so much emotion.
I charge, the backpack that Carl finally let me carry swinging back and forth making a loud clattering noise. "Maggie!" I call.
She turns around and sees me, disbelief showing on her face. And then she starts running towards me as well until our bodies slam into each other, and we're both crying.
We both cry, not even talking because we both no exactly what we are feeling. I glance behind her and see Judith waking up, and then she lets out a loud cry. Carl runs over and picks her up, hugging her and then putting her back down to sleep when her eyes close again.
"Let's go find the others." I say after about ten minutes of hugging Maggie.
"They're outside." She says.
Maggie puts one arm around my shoulder and the other around Carls, leading us out the back exit to where everyone apparently is. I can feel that Maggie is shaking, probably because she's so overwhelmed.
When we walk outside it takes a second for my eyes to readjust to the lighting. I see Glenn working to put up a make do fence, and Rick a little ways down as well as Michonne. And idea sneaks into my mind as I run up behind Glenn and put my hands over his eyes.
"Guess who." I laugh.
Glenn pulls my hands off him and spins around, probably reflexes, and looks almost as shocked as Maggie to see me.
"Anna!" He says pulling me into a hug.
I watch from Glenn's arms as Carl walks over to Rick, and the two of them have one of the cutest father/son moments ever. Rick is not that much taller than him anymore. I hadn't even noticed that.
After a minute Carl hugs Michonne and Rick looks around and then meets eyes with me. I smile at him and he smiles back and holds his arms out to me. Glenn releases me and I walk over to him, hugging him as well.
***********************************
"You'll never guess who we found." Carl says. The whole group besides Carol, I don't know where she is, is sitting around in a circle, eating and catching up.
I watch the pale face of Mika where she sits across from me. She looks so scared. Lizzie on the other hand looks completely at ease.
"Who?" Rick asks sounding interested in the conversation. Who could you possibly run into in the apocalypse. It's not like going to the grocery store and seeing someone you hadn't seen in a few weeks.
"Morales and his family." Carl says.
"He's alive?" Glenn says. He and Maggie were sitting right beside me.
"I don't know that anymore, but he was. The whole family was. They were going to come here with Anna and I, and then we ran into a herd and got separated."
"I had completely forgot about them." Rick said and ran his fingers through his beard. Judith sat on my lap, playing with and chewing on a blue toy with little beads in it that makes noise when you shake it.
I hand Judith over to Carl, saying that I have to go to the bathroom. Of course the bathroom is outside in the middle of the woods.
"Do you want me to come with you?" Maggie asks me.
"No, I have my gun." I say. I walk past them and slip out the door, going over to the side of the woods. I'm surprised Rick doesn't have anybody on watch.
Crickets chirp, the familiar summer sound that I've missed for awhile. To me, summer is so comforting.
I do my business and walk back to the door, pausing to hear the crickets again. But then I hear something I was not looking to hear; growling. Dang it.
And it's not just a few growls, it's a horde of growling. It has to be a least 50-100 of them. Alright stay calm. I slip into the door as quietly as possible and run over to the middle of the room where everyone is sitting.
"Shhh!" I say over the chatter, but No one hears me.
"Everyone be quiet!" I hiss, getting everyone's attention this time. "Walkers." I whisper and point towards the door.
"How many?" Sasha asks me.
"A lot." I whisper. Everyone begins to move in slow motion, picking up there stuff and preparing weapons. Hopefully the herd will just pass by.
I walk over to Judith's crib where she's sleeping now, standing over her so I can grab her if I have too. I don't really have anything to take with me.
Nobody makes any noise and then we can here the growls all around the building. Carl walks over to me, putting his arms around my lower waist protectively.
And then Bob, I don't even now how, drops his gun, it clattering to the floor and making a loud noise. No one breathes. And then walkers bang on the walls and doors and Judith lets out a loud cry and everyone springs into action. I pick her up and grab her diaper bag and throw it over my shoulder.
"What's the plan?" Sasha yells.
"I open the door on one and everyone runs!" Rick yells. The walkers aren't at the back door yet, and we have to move before they are and they block all of our exits.
I run over to the door so I'm not trapped in here, Carl running behind me.
"Three!" Rick starts the count down.
"Two!"
"One!" And he flings the door open, all of us racing out of there. It's my plan to stay with everyone, but that never works well in the dark. Everyone is separated and running, and all I know is that the only one I'm with is Judith, and I'm running like the freaking wind.
