"No matter what you think, no matter what anyone says, you are not safe." Rick says finishing up his 'pep' talk.
Two days ago we finally left the house and started heading towards the direction of Washington. We found a man, Gabriel, who used to be a preacher and lives in a church. I'm not sure how long we're staying here for.
Since we got to the church I've felt anything but relaxed, although the way that Judith and I are sprawled across Carl says different. With my head resting on the pew railing and my torso across his lap and Judith in my arms, you would think I'm completely relaxed, but I'm not.
A few of us are staying here while Rick and the others go out to get supplies. I wish I was going out instead of staying here and playing babysitter. This church makes me feel guilty. I don't know.
Rick straightens up from his squatting position and heads towards the door, and the different groups of people maneuver their way out.
Maggie waves to me and I salute her as she leaves with Glenn and Tara.
Carl runs his fingers through my pony tail as I bounce Judith up and down."It's so quiet in here." I murmur. The only ones left are Tyreese and the D.C. group which is my new way of referring to Abraham, Eugene, and Rosita.
I'm not sure what Eugene is doing, and I don't know where Abraham and Rosita are. Tyreese is outside, doing who knows what.
I put my legs up and lean Judith back against them because my arms are getting tired from holding her. When I look up at Carl, he's already looking at me. Sometimes we have these little moments where he's so perfect that it takes my breath away. The best way I can explain it is that he dazzles me. That sounds really stupid, but whatever.
He leans his head down and brushes his lips across mine, causing me to stop breathing and to freeze. He kisses my forehead and then my nose and all the way down to my lips. We only kiss for a second, because Judith is upset that we weren't paying attention to her for two seconds so she starts crying. It's best to keep a baby extremely quiet during an apocalypse.
"Shhh." I say and bounce her up and down.
And then I smell a nasty smell that means that Judith needs a new diaper.
"Oh goodness." I say. I stand up and take her to the back room where all her stuff is.
I change her diaper, and her eyes start to shut so I lay her down in her crib, but she starts to cry when I try to leave. Babies are so frustrating. I sigh and sit down by the side of the little bed.
I rock the bed back and forth until she finally goes to sleep. She looks so sweet while she sleeps. She always looks sweet, but she looks extra sweet when she sleeps. I kiss her chubby little cheek and tuck the blanket closer around her.
I leave the door open and go back to the pews. Carl hasn't moved since I left him.
"Judith's asleep." I say, sitting down on the pew beside him, or at least attempting to.
Carl moves over when I sit down so I'm sitting on his lap instead. Clever boy.
I sit sideways so I can see him."If you could have any kind of food right now, what would you want?" Carl says.
"Spaghetti and meatballs." I answer. I fix the collar of his dark green shirt, and smooth it out where it was wrinkled.
Tyreese enters the church, breathing loudly and I quickly sit down on the pew, rather than Carl.
"You guys take a turn keeping watch." Tyreese demands.
"Everything ok?" I ask him.
"Yep. Just get out there." He says. I've never know Tyreese to be pushy/bossy at all before.
Carl and I exchange a look but then go outside. A walker lies dead on the east side of the church. Is that what got Tyreese so worked up?
We wander around aimlessly, talking about everything and anything.
I go around to the back to check on things and see something on the boarding of the church. I take a closer look and realize that's it's a message. I gulp as I read it.
