The next morning Jolie put on the outfit she picked out the night before and fixed her hair and makeup exactly the way they taught her to. When she was done, she stood back and looked at her reflection, felling impressed that she was able to make herself look just like they had.
She was kind of nervous about facing Austin today after the embarrassing flirty texts she had sent him last night. She wondered if it would be awkward between them now. She walked downstairs and her Mom was in the kitchen cooking breakfast.
"Hey you! I stayed up late and finished putting all the kitchen stuff away and I went to the grocery store too so the fridge is stocked," she told her with a smile. "Now that we actually have a functional kitchen, I thought I'd make you some breakfast for your first day of school!"
It was obvious that spending time with Grandma last night had made her feel better. Maybe her Mom was right, that being close to her family was exactly what she needed right now.
"Thanks Mom. You didn't have to do that," Jolie told her, sitting down at the table and looking down at the scrambled eggs, wheat toast and orange juice her Mom sat in front of her.
"I didn't have to, but I wanted to. Now eat up," she said, kissing the top of her head before walking away.
Jolie had been dreading this new school, but now that it was time to go she actually felt a little excited about it. A lot of that was due to Austin's offer to show her around and his invite to sit with him and his friends at lunch. It was a relief that she would at least know one friendly person.
After she finished eating she ran upstairs and brushed her teeth really quick, sprayed on some perfume and rolled on some deodorant. That's when she heard a horn honking outside. She didn't want to keep him waiting so she grabbed her backpack and slung it over her shoulder before running down the stairs. She rushed out the front door and saw Austin waiting out there in a black jeep that had the doors off. It looked brand new.
"Nice wheels!" she said with a smile as she climbed up in the passenger side."Thanks. Mom got it for me on my sixteenth birthday. Damn, you look great!" he said with a smile as he looked her up and down.
"Thanks," she blushed, tucking her hair behind her ear and biting into her bottom lip.
He put the jeep in drive and started heading down the road as he pushed play on his phone which was connected to his car speakers through Bluetooth.
'Still D.R.E.' by Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg started to play and he immediately starting rapping along to it. Jolie joined in too, saying all the words with him.
He turned it down and looked over at her like she had three heads.
"You like Dr. Dre?" he asked, looking surprised.
"Well yeah. Doesn't everybody?" she laughed.
"No," he scoffed, shaking his head. "Most of the girls around here listen to country."
