On the way back home that day, things felt awkward with Skip. I sat on the bike’s handle bars, trying not to fall and trying not to flash my panties as always but we didn’t talk the way we usually did.

He usually asked me how my day had gone and we talked about funny things that had happened in class or anything really. We could always talk to each other about anything and never get bored. We were nearly home when I decided to try to break the ice, “How was school today, brother?” I said the last word sarcastically and then giggled. When we were alone, I totally did not consider him my brother.

He was quiet and didn’t say a word. We soon arrived home and he headed straight for his room. I went straight to mine and opened up my laptop.

Just as I had thought, I had an IM from him. When our parents were home, we sent IM’s to each other when we needed to talk. Its not so easy when your secret love is someone who lives under the same roof and even worse when its forbidden love.

New Message from Skip

Him: Ari we need to be more careful…

Me: About what?

Skip is typing…

Him: Us…we could have gotten caught today

Me: You’re overreacting!

Him: Luke seemed like he was getting suspicious.

Me: He was joking. No one suspects a thing.

Skip is typing…

Him: We need to mislead them.

Me: How?

Him: I have an idea.

He didn’t want me to know what his idea was just yet because he thought I might disapprove. I know Skip and I really do think I won’t like this plan. I was to be so unaware of his plan that he told me to get a ride with Beau who drives Luke & Jai to school while he went off early in the morning somewhere else on his bike.

That morning I did my same daily routine, just without Skip in it. Things did not feel right. When I heard a car honk coming from outside, I grabbed my backpack and walked out the front door, ready to face whatever Daniel was planning.

“Hey guys.” I told the three Brooks brother, as I got into the car smiling.

“Hey.” They replied in unison.

“Buckle up, Sahyounie.” Beau said, I could see his green eyes through the rearview mirror and realized he was smiling, probably smirking. “Skip might yell at me if I don’t get you to school safely.” He joked and the three boys laughed. Skip was way overprotective with me, especially with his friends.

I laughed along with them, playing along, “Maybe I’m feeling rebellious today, Brooks.” I then winked, staring into the rearview to make sure he’d seen me. Needless to say, I arrived to school safely.

As he pulled up in front of the drop off drive through thing of Penola, I could see my friends were mostly all there. I was actually quite a bit early today.

They all looked puzzled to see me, all except James which didn’t surprise me in the least. James and Skip are best friends. They tell each other everything. No doubt, James knew exactly where Daniel was and why he had ditched me this morning. Luke & Jai probably knew too. The Janoskian boys were tight. I walked over to Mandy who was there with Tyla and she asked me, “Where’s Skip?”

“That’s what I’d like to know.” I replied, shrugging my shoulders at her, “He ditched me this morning and didn’t even say where he was going.”

“Well speak of the devil…” I heard James say and then I looked over to see him smirking.

Just then, we saw Daniel pull up in front of the school on his bike. But he wasn’t alone. There was someone else with him. And not just someone, he was with a girl and she was riding on the handle bars of his bike, where I usually sit. She was in my spot. I felt anger and jealousy bubbling up inside me.

How could this be his plan?

She was Rae Lozano, the most popular girl in my grade. Rae was blonde, tan, had beautiful green eyes that literally looked like there were sparkles inside them when the light hit her eyes. She looked like a Barbie.

“Looks like someone took your spot.” Jai winked at me, jokingly. I paid no attention to his comment and just stared at him in shock.

He didn’t even pick an average girl or even one from his own grade. He had to pick the most perfect girl ever, that made me look like crap if I stood next to her and what was worse was that she was in most of my classes. I know this was all to steer people away from even conceiving the idea that there could be something between us, but this was just a low blow.

He stared at me, biting his lip and watching me with a pleading look. That wasn’t going to be enough to save him though. If he was going to be sucking faces with the most popular girl in school, right in front of my face, he was going to have to pay the price for that somehow.
