Waking Up

A bright light blinded me causing me to squint my eyes. Just like when I awoke in that room, my head was pounding painfully although this time hurt more. My foot as well felt heavier than before as well as the tight feeling in my chest.

The pungent smell of disinfectant and cleaning products drowned my senses and I immediately knew where I was.

The hospital.

I tried to sit up but some firm hands gently pushed me back down. I immediately recognised the coolness of their hands meaning that it was one of the Cullens.

"You need your rest, stay laying down please otherwise I'll have to call Carlisle," Rosalie said.

"Nice to see you again Rose too," I muttered sarcastically.

"Well, I'm guessing you're feeling a little better seeing as your sarcasm is back," she laughed.

"Yeah, I guess."

"How are you?"

"Take a guess."

"I completely understand. I remember when I awoke after a well... attack, let's say."

"I'm guessing the others said you should be the one to talk to me first as you went through this?" I asked.

"Yeah, although sometimes I feel like it's better when you don't talk about it."

"What did you guys do to him?" I asked.

"Let's just say, he got as much as he deserved, before Carlisle and his good morals came in to save the day," Rose said clearly annoyed that Carlisle had prevented her sweet revenge.

"Damn you Carlisle," I muttered sarcastically under my breath making Rosalie laugh. "Are the others here?"

"Yeah, they're waiting in the other room until you're ready."

"Where's Bella?"

"We don't know. That bitch took off before we had the chance to get her."

I could feel my eyes starting to tear up as the memories from last night came flooding back to me.

"Why did she do this?" I asked Rose.

"I don't know sweetheart," Rose replied hugging me tightly.

Rosalie began to rub circles into my back and I let all the tears come out.

"I-just do-don't understand. I-tried so- so hard to be nice- and all she's do-done is treat me like shit," I managed to choke out between the tears.

"You're safe now, ok? We won't let anything happen to you, not again. I promise and when I make a promise, I never break it, yeah?" Rose said.

"Thank you, Rose. Not just for this but for everything."

"No problem."

The door then opened and in came Carlisle. He smiled when he saw that I was awake.

"I see the patients awake," he said softly, coming over. "How are you feeling?"

"Like someone has just shoved my head against a wall. But apart from that I feel peachy," I said sarcastically.

"Well, I'm guessing that your use of sarcasm means that you should be alright. It will take time but I'm sure that we can help you get past this all," Carlisle said. "Do you mind if I just look at where you hit your head?"

"Sure," I said moving forward so he could look at my head.

Pain erupted inside of me when he touched my head. I tried to hide the pain like I'd done for so many years before.
