It was one of the most beautiful car rides McKayla had ever been on, if that makes any sense. Her green eyes scanned the trees that passed her by. A cool breeze through the slightly rolled down car windows blew on her face. It felt nice, and it smelled like spring and rain. Music played through the car radio at a loud volume. McKayla could feel the vibrations of the bass throughout the car.
With the lights out, it's less dangerous
Here we are now, entertain us
I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now, entertain us
A mulatto
An albino
A mosquito
My libido
Yeah, hey, yay
McKayla was in a Slipknot T-shirt, a pair of loosely fitting jeans, and a pair of black converse. She also wore the black hooded jacket that Chris gave to her once upon a time, and his beanie on her head. Her engagement ring rest around her left ring-finger.
"Is the breeze too cold?" Chris asks McKayla, practically having to shout over the music.
McKayla shakes her head and smiles, "It's perfect."
Chris smiles in return. He was excited to finally be bringing McKayla home. Sophie was in the car behind them. Chris was doing steering-wheel-drums and continued talking.
"Are you excited?"
McKayla nods rapidly and her smile grows, "Yes."
"So do you still wanna get married outside?"
"Mhm. But I'd like to do it before the weather gets really hot and gross; and before you have to leave for tour again."
"You realize that doesn't give us a very big window of time, yes?"
"I know, but I think we could pull it off. I don't want anything big; just friends and family. And if we still don't think we can pull off a wedding in that amount of time, we can just get married at City Hall. All that matters is that I get to be your wife, and soon."
Chris smiles, "I'll see what the schedules are looking like for the upcoming weeks."
They arrive back at the house shortly later. Sophie arrives as well. McKayla slowly gets out of the car. Chris quickly gets out and runs to the other side to help her. She takes his arm and smiles.
"I missed it here."
"I missed you being here."
Sophie gets out of her car and grins, "Hey, you two." She greets, "How's it feel to be home again?"
"It feels great." McKayla exhales, smiling.
"Here, hun, go with your mom. I'll get your things." Chris says.
McKayla nods and takes Sophie's hand. They slowly begin walking up to the house as Chris got McKayla's bags out of the car. The chemo weakened McKayla significantly, so she often had to take it slower than she'd prefer.
Chris walks back over with the bags over his shoulder and takes McKayla's hand that Sophie wasn't holding. His other hand goes to the small of her back and he guides her up the steps of the house. Once they got inside, Chris quickly runs upstairs to the bedroom to put McKayla's things away. McKayla and Sophie sit down.
"You alright?" Sophie asks.
"I'm fine." McKayla exhales, "It's so good to be home."
"Have you and Chris started making any wedding plans?"
