Hey guys! This is the Behind the Scenes chapter for Fatal: Part 3 and some facts about the entire series that I couldn't reveal until the third story was complete. Enjoy!
While it is never officially stated, Chris and McKayla actually had a no-sex-until-the-wedding pact. Mostly to ensure McKayla would actually have the energy and ability to be sexually active.
McKayla's middle name is Hope and is often used as a source of irony not just in this story, but throughout the entire Fatal series. When things get bad, it often seems like McKayla has NO hope.
Chris and McKayla's son was originally going to be named Ashton, but I wanted the baby's name to actually have some kind of significance. And so I came up with the idea of naming him after McKayla's brother.
It is stated in chapter 17 that McKayla knows what Chris does when he lies: shoves his hands in his pockets and rocks back and fourth on his heels. This is exactly what Chris does in Part 1 after she and Chris sleep together for the very first time and Chris says it didn't mean anything to him ;)
Aside from the lyrics to the song that was playing, the description of Chris and McKayla's first dance at their wedding was exactly the same as the description of them dancing at their senior prom...And just to clarify, I did that on purpose, haha.
You may be wondering why Chris and McKayla went to New York of all places to honey moon. Well, it was actually intended so that they could be close to home in case something were to happen to McKayla that was cancer related. I.E. She passed out, started bleeding, etc. Fortunately none of that happened, but it was better to be safe than sorry. They wanted to be close to home.
It is actually revealed that McKayla wants children in Part 1 of the series in the "prologue". But one wouldn't know that if they hadn't read the entire series. It is stated multiple times within McKayla's thoughts in the third book how much she wants kids, but either Chris doesn't or she believes the cancer made her infertile. She has one of these thoughts in the "prologue" of the first chapter of the first book.
Quick story behind McKayla's bracelet: It belonged to a sophomore girl who went to the school where the shooting took place. She got it for her birthday from her boyfriend. When the first shot of the shooting rang out, the girl ran for cover and the bracelet fell off of her wrist. She and that boyfriend broke up about two months later, so the bracelet was not missed.
I went into this story knowing close to nothing about cancer. The majority of information on cancer that I used in this story came from, like, ten minutes of research online and the TV show, "Chasing Life".
The picture I have for McKayla for hers and Chris' wedding day was a picture of Phoebe Tonkin (the actress I have playing McKayla) on the TV show, "The Originals" from when her character got married.
The idea I got for McKayla surprising Chris as a "stripper" during his bachelor party in chapter 4 was actually inspired by another fanfiction I read a couple years back but I'm not going to say what it was because it's not MIW related and its kind of embarrassing, haha.
I didn't originally plan on McKayla not being able to cook. That was just something I put in to add more to her character.
The reason why I chose to have Chris and McKayla have a boy rather than a girl like usual in these kinds of stories is exactly that. I know, I know, the whole "Daddy's little girl" with Chris is so cute, I know. But 97% of all band member stories, they have a girl. If they have a boy, the boy is a second child. So I chose for Chris and McKayla to have a boy first, not for any symbolic reason (as previously stated, the idea to name him Matthew came later) but just to do something different.
I saw in an Alternative Press interview called "Ten Things You Didn't Know About Motionless in White" (or something along those lines) that Chris actually really wants to some day live in a big secluded house in the country or something in real life, and I saw this AFTER having written the description for Chris and McKayla's house. Soo when I heard that that would actually fit into Chris's "character description" I was like fuck yeah!
The title for this trilogy, "Fatal" is obviously symbolic to how, throughout the trilogy, McKayla is brought into situations that make her feel as though she may be facing death. And then I added the stuff from Puppets so to help identify which story was which.
Chris and McKayla name their baby girl Harmony.
Well that's it! Be on the look out for my next book, my "Alternate Endings" book. This book is about ALL of my stories I've written so far (excluding Drain This Disease) giving exactly what the title says: Alternate Endings to my stories. For example, What if Chris and McKayla had gotten together in Part 1 after they slept together? I've got a one shot for that :) I'll put up a bigger, broader explanation later. The explanation will be the first "part" or "chapter" of the story so be on the look out for it!
ALSO! You guys are gonna get a super special surprise from me later on today ;) if I remember to do it at the right time, it should be between 2:30 and 3:00 pm central time so be on the lookout for it!
xoxo, Scissorhands.
