DEAR SOCIETY

DEAR SOCIETAL STANDARDS
I will no longer be silenced,
by the words you say
and bark at me!

for all my life I have been told
the way I should dress
the way I should act
the way I should look
and the way I should be

I am tired of your lies,
that soak into the minds of the young,
I am tired of the way you make them
question their capabilities and their self worth.

The seeds of mistruth
that is planted
into their little minds,
will only grow,
into weeds of misery and hurt.

I am sick of these ridiculous standards
you impose on me and other young girls!
The lie that we should fit into these cookie cutter moulds you press onto our raw bodies.

The lie that beauty is monochromatic,
is one colour, is one shape.

The lie that we are either
too skinny
too big
too small
too hairy
too limp
too quiet
too outspoken
too emotional
too emotionless

for how are we supposed to win,
in this game?
in this society?

All my life I have been controlled and restricted
on the way I speak my truth,
dress my taste,
express my visions
and present my case

DEAR SOCIETY,
I will no longer be silenced by the words you say and spew at me,
In fact, after all of that,
Imma just do me :)

authors note:
hiiiii so this poem I wrote focuses on society's crazy standards against women- from a woman or girl's perspective. I find that in this society, what is considered beautiful is always changing (trends) and a lot of the time, those beauty ideals are often unattainable and rather unrealistic to many girls.
I also wanted to convey how girls, by society are expected to act a certain way. I think life's too short to worry about things that don't really matter, so do whatever the heck you want, as long as it doesn't hurt you or anyone else. 🌿
