Chapter 04: This Cat is Cute No More!

My nightmare began with me standing alone on a deserted street in some abandoned ghost town. A pale gibbous moon was high up on the midnight sky. A storm was blowing and flashes of lightning striking behind the sinister clouds were heralding a bigger storm.

Rows of dilapidated houses and condemned buildings flanked the harrowing street. I was walking, cold and lonely, I had no idea where I was. All I knew was the tugging instinct inside me, telling me to keep walking. Parliament of owls perched atop of a skeleton tree. Gnarled branches resembled reaching fingers of a grotesque monster and I felt the gaze of the mysterious birds.

Keep walking. That's what they told me.

The street I walked on, seemed to stretch for perpetuity. The storm raged on. My glasses fogged amidst of billowing frigid wind and my warm breath. Then, invisible hands in the storm plucked it away. My glasses got ripped away into the darkness. It was gone, leaving me disoriented. I couldn't see very well and objects within the long distance were blur to my eyes.

I heard soft giggles in the wind. Teasing me. This is not cool. I thought. But, I kept on walking. Maybe, I would find a shelter to protect myself from the fierce storm. Or better, find myself an optical eye store so that I can get myself a pair of contact lenses.

At the far end of the block, a shadowy figure loomed. I saw glimpses of a fiery spectre hovered over the shadow. My heart began to pound unevenly. Then, something charged at me in high speed. I heard loud hooves clattering against the cold pavement and it swooped past me, it knocked me but I retained my balance and sprinted frantically from it.

"Be careful." A masculine voice permeated from the darkness.

I froze.

"Nightmare is goofy like that." The voice said again.

"Wh-who are you?" I asked timidly to the mysterious entity. It exuded dangerous threats and eerie vibes.

It chuckled softly. "War."

Lightning flashed and one of the nearest shop's door had been blown open by the storm. I saw the entity for a split second, with my poor sighted eyes, there was the fiery spectre on top of his head or so it seemed. I couldn't never be sure.

"Don't trust him." The entity spoke. "Get away from him."

"Him who?"

"Remember this..."

"Remember what?" I asked again, puzzled. But, I never got the answer as a lightning flashed again. It struck me and I was blasted out, unconscious.

I bolted upright, Dave who was sleeping and purring comfortably on my chest got thrown away in surprised.

"Hey!" Dave said groggily.

I took a deep breath. No storm, no fiery spectre and no voices. Morning sunlight filtered through my half-opened window. The digital clock on my nightstand showed it was 8.43 in the morning.

Don't trust him.

What had the voice meant?

First night having Dave the supernatural cat stay in my house, I already had a premonition and getting electrocuted in my dream. Oh boy, this is going to be so good.

"Bad dream?" Dave asked, his voice melodious, no traces of sleep in it.

He looked at me expectantly. I stared back at him. "Err, nothing."
