Warnings: death, angst, brief mention of gore
Patton gnawed at his lip, worry coursing through him. Roman sighed and gently took him by the shoulders and turned him around to face him.
"Love, he'll be fine. He can take care of himself." But Patton shook his head.
"What if he's not? He was the closest to..." Patton trailed off.
"Logan," Roman finished for him. Patton sniffled and nodded. Roman softened, sadly smiling down at the fatherly figure. "Well go check on him, okay?" Patton nodded again and Roman embraced him in a warm hug. They left, hand in hand to Virgil's room. Patton knocked on his boyfriend's door.
"Kiddo?" He called. No answer. "Hey, I know this has been hard on everyone, especially you, but please come out. Or at least answer the door. Please?" Patton's pleading went unheard. Roman sighed and gently opened the door. He was shocked to see that Virgil wasn't there. They looked between them, meeting eyes. A moment passed before they were scrambling down the halls, every door flying open. They were met with a splash and a thump as they opened the bathroom door while Deceit was in the middle of a bath. The lying side squeaked and flailed in surprise, splashing water over the side of the tub and falling over. The door closed again with a quick apology from Patton. Remus was in the laundry room. More specifically, he was in the washer being spun around in a bunch of soapy water. He smiled up at Roman and Patton when they opened the lid, and then closed it slowly.
"Could you turn it back on?" came the muffled burbled call from inside the washer. Roman shook his head and pressed the start button before they left again. They raced to the kitchen and checked all of the cabinets, groaning in despair when they proved to be empty. They checked the living room, all of the dark sides' rooms, but Virgil was nowhere to be seen. Patton gulped and tugged on Roman's sleeve. Roman looked down at him.
"What is it, My Love?" Roman asked. Patton fidgeted with the paws of his cat hoodie. He hadn't taken the garment off since Logan.
"We should check Logan's room..." Patton whispered. Roman blinked at him before slowly nodding.
"Okay," he said. They slowly walked over to the logical side's door. It had once been glowing blue, but now it was dull white. Lifeless. Roman shakily raised his hand to the door knob. He took a deep breath before preparing himself to open the door. He turned the knob. The door didn't push open. He couldn't do it. Patton gave him a sympathetic look.
"Do you want me to do it?" he asked. Roman gave a jerky nod and Patton slowly braced himself and pushed open the door. It was bright, the window showing the overcast sky and the trees outside. The bed was neatly made and the desk was organized and ready to be used, waiting for Logan to walk in and use it. Roman choked a sob. Virgil wasn't in here. Patton slowly closed the door again and wrapped Roman up in a hug. He knew the romantic side had taken a huge hit to his heart when Logan died. Patton had, too. Patton stayed with Roman, rubbing his back. Eventually, Roman regained control and wiped his face dry.
"Come on," he said. There was one place they hadn't checked. They rose up into Thomas' room, relieved to find Virgil there, cuddled up next to Thomas. He was sleeping, though his face was contorted in fear, despair and disgust. He must be having a nightmare. Thomas looked up at them.
"He had a panic attack," Thomas explained quietly. "I tried calling Logan to come help, but he wouldn't come. Do you have any idea why this happened?" Roman sucked in a breath and Patton sobbed. Roman hugged him and brought him over to where Thomas sat with Virgil. They all sat.
"Logan..." Roman trailed off. He took a deep breath and continued. "Logan died." Thomas' eyes widened. Hurt and fear shown in his eyes. He looked back down at Virgil.
"Oh," he said. "How?" Roman blinked back tears and wrapped his arm around Thomas.
"Virgil found him on his bed. He had a knife in his hand, covered in blood. We tried to save him, but he was already gone." Thomas saddened, tears pricking his eyes. He started crying, then full on sobbing, clutching Roman's shirt. Virgil, who had woken up, wrapped his arms around Thomas, holding his boyfriend close. They stayed like that, holding onto each other's comfort until they fell into a deep, exhausted sleep one by one. Virgil was the last to fall asleep, but eventually he too fell asleep.
Logan stood from his space on the other side of the room and floated over to the others. He smiled down on them lovingly, wishing he could embrace each of them one last time.
