The worry hung over Pax's parents was dripping even the distance didn't hide it. They didn't stop to ask Kyler what happened, they just rush over and grab Pax, carrying him inside.
Kyler felt like an intruder at this precise moment, like he shouldn't be here, this was all his fault. He turned around to leave the tiny cottage. ''I'm sorry Pax'' With a whisper as a tear fell down his face, running through the woods toward, what once was, home.
Anther and his pack had returned safe but he was still bothered by the unprompted attack on a human. The solar Vampires up until this point had exclusively hunted Werewolves, it didn't make sense to hurt a human. The boy who fell from the sky stuck out too, Anther knew all the Werewolves in the area and he didn't strike him as one of them, yet there was a familiarity to his scent that Anther couldn't shake.
Kyler sat at the bus stop opposite his house for an hour before the courage to approach the house came. He was only kicked out this morning and yet so much had happened and he still didn't feel ready to be back this soon. Knowing that there was nowhere else to go, Kyler swallowed his pride and pressed his parents door bell.
Pax was starting to wake up, his vision was blurry but at least he could see, he was disoriented to be home on his kitchen table, knowing only one person could have brought him here. Kyler. Just the thought of his precious other half made his stomach swirl in anticipation to see him.
A groan escaped his lips as he pushed himself up onto his elbows, where he noticed his left wrist was wrapped in a splint, probably courtesy of his mother. Remembering why he was here, the Vampire's, that didn't burn in the sunlight, that had tried to hurt Kyler, the other Vampire that had wanted to help Ky, what was all that?
Pax was starting to feel the bruises all over, it was going to suck trying to stand up. He wasn't going to rush that. ''Mom?'' He called just loud enough to go through the door, since he knows she'll hear it wherever she is.
The door swung open about a minute later, it was only a small home but Pax would bet his mother was waiting outside for him to wake up, since he was still her cub and all, she still treated him like a baby. Which sometimes he had to admit was nice, to know how much his parents cared.
Pax could tell from the look on his mother's face that she was hiding something, she looked guilty. Thought's instantly flood with Kyler and hoping he was ok.
''He's fine sweetheart, don't worry.'' Angela says sweetly, walking slowly toward her son. ''He left after he brought you back, but he's safe, your fathers keeping an eye on him.'' That shocked Pax. His dad was out protecting his boyfriend? The same boyfriend his parents don't like?
Pax was expecting them to send Ky away for everyone's safety, not to follow him around, bodyguard style.
Knowing there was no point in talking given the Wolf telepathy thing, Pax allowed himself to sink, knowing rest wouldn't hurt.
Tristan decided that he would find Kyler once the sun had set, he wasn't about to admit he was worried about the Wolfy but he was. The Wolf mattered to Ky and that was all Tristan cared about. It might also be a good idea to find the Lunar Vamps and see if they've heard anything about the Solar's.
If they're back it can't be good, they almost attacked his best friend and Tristan wasn't ok with that. It almost seemed like they were trying to get the Wolves attention.
Slowly, Tristan slid out the doorway, watching for any Wolves or Vamps, he wasn't trying to get caught up in another awful encounter before he could find Kyler.
Kyler stood listening to the familiar ringing, from the wrong side of the door. His father opened it with surprise on his face, but there was no disgust or hatred, instead Kyler was engulfed in a hug before his father called down the hall for his mother who raced to the door and pulled Kyler in just as fast as his father had.
Before they could let go, they were crying and fumbling out so many apologies. Ten minutes had gone by before they ushered Ky inside and were sitting on the couch asking for him to forgive them.
They sat on the couch and they kept saying how happy they were to have Kyler back, that he's welcome to stay with them as long as he wants and he realised how much they missed him, how much they love him.
Maybe he had lost Pax, but Ky still had his family. It was that moment he began to cry again, but this time it was sad crying. Pax. Would he ever see his boyfriend again? Were they still boyfriends?
''Honey what's wrong? Is everything alright with Pax? Is that why you're home so soon?'' Her voice as sweet as ever. He couldn't lie to her or hide anything from either of them, but how exactly do you explain that your Vampire best friend and Werewolf boyfriend just saved you from a Vampire/Werewolf ambush? Exactly.
He had to just keep it simple. ''We had a fight after I told him you guys kicked me out, his parents didn't want me to stay there and I put him in a really tough situation and I didn't want him to have to choose me over his parents.'' Technically not untrue.
''Oh honey!'' Marie exclaimed as she leaned over to hold him again. ''We're so sorry for doing that to you, I'm sure you can talk to him about it, we'd love to meet him too.'' She says this with a smile, which shocks Kyler, he wasn't expecting that so quickly... he started scanning both his parents faces for any signs of deceit and there were none, they just genuinely want their son to be happy.
Kyler was up and hugging his parents as tight as he could, ''I love you guys so much!'' He exclaimed in pure joy, as they held him, feeling happy to be a family again.
It wasn't until Kyler pulled back that a sharp stinging in his arm made him wince in pain, and confusion, thinking back to the vampire who grabbed his arm this afternoon.
''What's the matter son?'' David called over, suddenly concerned.
''Huh? Yeah everything's fine, just a bruise.'' They didn't seem entirely convinced but he couldn't think of anything else to tell them. They let it drop and Angela went to cook dinner while David finished the laundry. Leaving Kyler to go up to his room to check his arm and call Pax.
Kyler carefully took his shirt off, with the intention of changing anyway, for a close look at his arm. As soon as he saw himself in the mirror, his mouth fell open as he stood gawping at his reflection. It took a few double takes from the mirror to his arm to fully sink in what he was looking at.
The glowing burn on his shoulder that carried down his arm stopping just above the elbow was a million times redder than any sunburn he'd ever had and it was actually glowing, like it was some kind of UV activated torch. It was obviously not natural among humans and Kyler's anxiety hit the roof and kept going.
Grabbing his phone from his pocket and calling Pax is all in one swift panicked motion, he can't even hold the phone steady at his ear. It doesn't even ring before the doorbell sounds and Kyler drops the phone.
Not knowing who it was, Kyler grabbed a long sleeve shirt, throwing it over his head only being cautious on his left side. Tristan, Pax, the Vampire who burned him or the Wolves who left him in the woods, any one of them could be waiting for him and Ky was anxious to know who.
Listening at his bedroom door Ky caught wind of a familiar, yet unexpected voice. Opening his door and slinking to the top of the stairs, Kyler could clearly hear his father talking to Alfie.
David opened the door and invited Alfie inside, it's now that Ky notices he's limping, realising he wouldn't have come here with another option. Thoughts flood back in reminding Ky of his phone.
The phone was quiet for about a minute until Pax heard something muffled. ''Ky?'' He asked, when he finally heard breathing.
''Pax! Your dads in my house! He's talking to my dad, he was limping, is he ok? What happened?...'' Pax could barely hear at this point, Kyler was stuttering in his nerves, so Pax cut him off.
''Ky. My dad is fine, he got attacked by some Solar's outside your house, that's why he had to hide inside to get away from them. Everything's fine, ok? He'll talk to your parents until the Vamps leave and then he'll head back here. He was just watching out for you and I'm glad he was there or those blood suckers might've come for you again.'' He said all this as calm as he could muster, but Pax could tell Kyler was still anxious and probably more nervous at the thought of being hunted by Vampires.
Pax wished he knew what they wanted with his boyfriend...
