The Vampires standing either side of Kyler, hissing at the circling Wolves, all getting increasingly closer towards him. He stood frozen, shaking, waiting for the end, with no way out of this. This all could have been avoided; why did he have to come out to his parents? Why did he have to go to Paxs'? Why didn't he just tell his sweet boyfriend where he was going?
As the Vampire on his left grabbed his arm, Kyler startled and gasped, but the Vamps gaze was locked on the white Wolves. He assumed they were fighting silently for dominance and neither was budging. A sudden feeling swept over Kyler as he realised how alone he felt, wishing he had said more to Pax before leaving him for possibly the last time. He felt like such an idiot.
Luckily nobody gets too close before there's a whistle from the tree tops, startling everyone in sight. Someone smarter than Ky, might try and escape while the monsters are distracted, but he's the curious cat in these situations and this time it probably will kill him, but he couldn't look away. Who whistled? Or is who the wrong word?
Pax had never been the best at whistling but this time he had managed a decent one, loud enough to get everyone's attention away from each other, while no one could exactly pin point him up here in the tree tops. He still wasn't completely trusting of the blood sucker who had put this plan in action, but he hadn't come up with anything better, so he played along.
Worrying only about Kyler, ignoring the unknowns of the Vamps name or his intention for helping his Kyler, Pax stuck to the shadows, waiting for his counter part to follow his part of the plan.
As soon as Pax had noticed the Vampires movement behind the tree, he started his slow decent from the tree branches. He knew he had to be slow, any movement too quick could draw the eyes of the enemies and they would lose their advantage.
Anther was being stubborn and Pax couldn't get through to him, focusing too hard on his mind, his foot caught a loose vine, ripping it from the tree and throwing him off balance. Pax was left hanging from a tree branch with nowhere to house his feet, waiting for anyone to look up and see him up here helpless.
Where had that Vampire gone? Pax was about to blow the whole plan before it even got started and there was only one thing he could think about, the choice he was now faced with.
As his fingers were losing their grip he was forced to decide, he couldn't fall to the ground as a human and remain unbroken and he couldn't be down there in Wolf form with the risks of Kyler's safety.
This was not going to be fun.
Tristan had never been outside in daylight before, any second the sun could catch his cold, pale skin and burn him to ash. Trying not to think about it and focus on the mission, the whistle had everyone's attention and now Tristan had too...
You'd think that coming up with a plan would be the difficult part but for our protagonist Vampire it was actually remembering his own plan that he struggled with.
Anyway, Panic washed through Tristan as he stood around like a pleb who forgot his own plan, the snarling and hissing begun again and the distraction seemed all for nought.
Tristan felt an overwhelming sharp burn on his arm, looking down to see the sun being absorbed by his skin, a shriek almost escaped him as he ducked behind his tree, shielding himself from the piercing sun rays of death.
Not a second after he could think, a loud thud as something hit the ground. Peaking from his hiding spot Tristan saw the Wolf boy laying on the ground in the middle of the Wolves and Vampires.
Regret filled his entire being knowing how horribly his plan had failed. Guilt crept in as the relief that Wolfy had scared off the Solar's hit him. The other Wolves surprised Tristan as they left the Wolf boy unconscious on the ground, did they not know he was a Wolf?
Kyler was still for a moment, trying to comprehend everything as he realised he was no longer going to die, then the panic hit as he rushed to Pax who was unmoving, barely breathing.
Kneeling beside him, checking his heartbeat which was faint but still alive, Kyler teared up, knowing this was all his fault.
A shadowed figure skulked beside a tree, instantly sending Kyler into a panic as he lunged forward over Pax to protect what was left of him. A second passed before Kyler risked another glance and recognised the figure. Tristan hung his head in shame, alerting Kyler that he was a part of whatever happened to Pax.
His tears instantly flood past his eyes as he got angry at his best friend for whatever his part in this was. Kyler stood, not taking his eyes off Tristan, as he watched him walk over as close as he could while still being out of the sunlight.
Tristan, obviously startled by Kyler's unconscious boyfriend starts blubbering a pathetic apology. ''Save it Tristan. I'm not interested in your explanation.'' He held his tone as even as possible without shouting. Kyler didn't want a fight, he just wanted to help Pax and the only way he could think to do that would be to take him to his parents.
Turning his back on Tristan, Kyler picked up Pax to take him home, while Tristan stood silent. He knew well enough to know that trying to say anything right now would only make things worse, so he backed off. ''You should get inside before the sun gets any closer.'' Kyler called over his shoulder, he didn't intend to lose a friend over this, but he wasn't about to trust him like he used to either.
Carrying Pax a few steps, Kyler turned back to see Tristan... was long gone.
Tristan didn't need to be told twice, he was gone before Kyler could take another step. It was clear that Kyler chose the smelly hounds over their friendship without even caring to let him explain. Tristan knew he messed up but it wasn't completely his fault, he didn't know what happened but he would be damned before he let anyone give him all the blame.
Maybe Vampires were better off alone, like Lanthorp had once told him.
