I rang the bell on the Curtis brothers' house. What if they don't like me, I thought to myself. I heard footsteps coming to the door, when it opened I was greeted by a man who looked about twenty. "Hello." He said
"Hi, are you Darrel Curtis?" I asked, shyly
"Yes I am, may I ask who you are?"
"My name is Susan Kenelsworth, may I come inside?"
"Yeah, sure, come in." He smiled, that was just the relief I needed
I counted six other guys, three on a couch, one in a chair with a cigarette in his mouth. The other two were sitting on the floor, eating chocolate cake. "Hi there." One of them said to me
"Hi, my name is Susan Kenelsworth, and uh, are y'all the greaser gang?
     "Yup." They all said
"W-why you ask?" One of them stuttered, he had black hair and a few scars. He looked as nervous as I felt
     " I-," I slowly started, " I want to be a greaser."
They all looked at me, kinda confused, as if they never heard those words come out of a girl's mouth. The one who was smoking asked me, " What does a broad like you wanna join our gang for?" He asked, winking at me
"Dallas!" One of the younger looking snapped, he looked about fourteen, "Don't scare her away, already."
"Aw come on, man, you know me." Dallas said, letting out a big puff of smoke
"Um, so what are y'all's names?" I asked
They all told me their names, there were the Curtis brothers: Ponyboy, Sodapop, and Darry. There was Two-bit, Johnny, Steve, and Dallas. They all looked really nice, except Dallas. Besides, I knew about Dallas Winston, his reputation, and what he'd been in jail for. When I first heard about him, I was a bit scared of him, but seeing him in person, it wasn't so bad. I don't know what it was.
"So," I said, apprehensively, "Can I be a greaser?"
     "Yeah, sure." Said Darry
     "Really?" I asked, smiling
     "Yeah, if you fight Dally."
"What?!" The entire gang practically screamed at him
     "Ok." I agreed
"What?!" The entire gang practically screamed at me, including Darry
"I'll fight Dallas." I said, almost smiling
I didn't like Dallas, especially after meeting him in person. I wanted to fight to prove I was capable of it, though. I knew Darry was just kidding when he said I had to fight him, but I wanted to.
"Uh, ok." Said Dallas, I sensed some slight fear in his voice
We went outside, I played it cool, but I was terrified. "Alright, do something to make me mad." I said to Dallas
He pulled me in as if he were about to kiss me, and I punched him in the face. That's when the fight started. We threw a couple punches, kicks, and swings. I eventually managed to pin him to the ground. I stood there, with my foot on his stomach, we were both out of breath. He took my ankle and made me fall forward, our heads collided.
I woke up on the couch, I knew I had blacked out, but I forgot what from. "What happened?" I groaned
"Took you long enough to wake up." Said Two-bit
"You and Dallas had a fist fight." Steve reminded me
"Oh, yeah," I remembered what happened, "Did I win?"
I heard Dallas groan a few seconds later. "What happened?"
Sodapop explained how he got his butt kicked by a girl, he seemed kinda mad. I chuckled and he glared at me. "So, apart from being able to beat up Dally, tell us more about yourself." Said Ponyboy
"Well, I'm new to Tulsa, I'm seventeen years old, and-"
"Where ya from?" Johnny interrupted me
"A small town in Georgia." I said
"Are you a good singer?" Asked Ponyboy. Where did that come from?
"Yeah, I guess." I said, slightly smiling
     "Sing something!" Said Two-bit
"What am I, a jukebox?" I asked, sarcastically
They asked me a few more questions and I answered them. Dallas stares at me for most of the time. I didn't know if he liked me or if he was plotting something. Two-bit took out a cigarette and started smoking it. He started talking and accidentally blew smoke in my face, I started coughing.
"I take it you don't smoke." Said Two-bit
"No, and I have an especially low tolerance when it's blown directly in my face."
     "Sorry 'bout that."
     "It's fine."
"Can I use your bathroom?" I asked Darry
He nodded and I looked over my cuts and bruises and Dallas did the same in the living room. I didn't have too many, but he had a lot. "So, am I a greaser?" I asked
     "Definitely." Said Darry
"Hey, do you own any weapons?" Asked Steve
"Yeah, I have a gun that I use as a bluff, I know you guys have a rival gang; Socs right?"
     "Yup." Said Sodapop
Some time went by and I had to get to my apartment. "I'll see you guys tomorrow." I said, smiling
I started to head out the door, but Dallas wanted to talk outside. "What is it?" I asked, a little suspicious
"I wanted to ask you if you wanted to go to the Nightly Double with Ponyboy, Johnny, and me, tomorrow night."
"Sure, that sounds fun. I'll see you tomorrow." I smiled, slightly as I walked off
I got home to my apartment, safe. Thank goodness no Socs tried to jump me, but I did see a blue Mustang pass by. I went to sleep, satisfied at the thought of: one day in Tulsa, and seven friends.
