The Bat

You quickly got up and looked around. Edgeshire had completely disappeared. You were in a completely different place now. Instead of being surrounded by tall buildings and rainy city streets, there were green hills everywhere.

"W-where am I? What happened?" You wondered aloud.

"Don't ya know, dearie? You're on Mobius, of course."

You turned around and faced the person that you didn't even know was there. She looked kind of like a... bat? You stared at her, refusing to believe what you were seeing.

"Close your mouth, hon. There's flies." She said, smirking.

"Y-you're a bat." You said, still staring.

"Oh, is that so? I hadn't realized." She replied sarcastically.

"Bats can't talk."

"Then what am I? Just some kind of hallucination?" The bat asked.

"It makes more sense that what I'm seeing here."

She sighed. "Well, I hate to tell ya, but I'm no hallucination. I'm real."

"Well then, there's only one explanation." You said, trying to concentrate.

"You went through a portal that led you here?" The bat suggested.

"No, no that would be stupid. I must have been knocked out when I landed on the sidewalk in Edgeshire. This is all just a dream." You looked at the bat. "You're just a dream."

"What are you talking about? This here is reality. You're the thing that doesn't belong."

"Ok then," you said, thinking. "Humor me, bat. What's your name?"

"If you must know, my name is Rouge. Rouge the Bat."

"That's great." You said, not really paying attention. "And you say that we're... where? Mob-ios?"

"Mobius."

"Right, right. Mobius. Now, have you ever heard of a city called Edgeshire? Big city, lots of people, located in central New Jersey, any of that sound familiar?"

"Sorry dear, doesn't ring a bell."

You then suddenly remembered something. Something very important.

"Rouge!" You yelled. "Have you seen my brother, Jack? Is he here too? Is he safe? Did he ever get home? Where is he? Please tell me he's okay-"

"Hon, relax!" She said, trying to calm you down. "You're the only new one around here. We haven't seen anyone else yet."

"Oh... okay...." You paused trying to think. "Wait a minute... who is 'we?' Are there other people here?"

Rouge looked at you, confused. "Well of course there's other people here. Did you think I was just all by myself?"

"Hey, I just got here! I'm not used to bright green grass and talking bats."

"There's a town, just down that way." Rouge pointed into the distance. "I could take you there. We could ask if anyone there has seen your brother."

You looked at the bat, surprised. "Really? You'd help me?"

"Sure! Well, for a small fee..." She said, looking at your wrist. You glanced down and realized she was looking at your watch. You had almost forgotten you had it.

"If it's my watch you want, you can have it." You said, taking off the watch and tossing it to her. "Now let's go."

You started walking off towards the town, and Rouge started to follow.

"Excuse me, dear, but I don't think I've caught your name yet." Rouge asked.

"(Y/N). (Y/N) (L/N)."

"And you say you're from this place called Edgeshire?" The bat asked.

"Yep. Busy city."

"Well, there's not that many cities around here, so don't get your hopes up."

"Speaking about places," You started, looking at Rouge. "What is this place? I know it's Mobius, but what is Mobius?"

Rouge stared at you before answering.

"You really aren't from around here, are you? Mobius is the planet we're on."

You stopped in your tracks, trying to process what Rouge had told you.

"P-planet? Not country, not state, not city, but planet?"

"Yeah... what planet are you from?"

"I-I'm from... Earth..." You said, extremely confused.

"Well, I've never heard anyone refer to Mobius as 'Earth.'" She looked at you. "I think you might be from somewhere farther than we thought."

"Oh, really? I thought planets were just a few miles apart." You said while rolling your eyes.

Rouge giggled. "You know, you're cute when your angry, dear."

You ignored her and continued walking toward the town, thinking about all the ways you could have gotten here. And more importantly...
