Lost Portals (Tails X Reader)

The Fox

It felt like forever. Falling. Slowly but surely plummeting directly to your untimely demise. Maybe this was all just a dream, and when you finally reach the ground, you'll wake up back home. And everything could be normal again.

But somehow, you knew that wasn't true.

There was nothing else for you to do but accept your fate. 'I guess this is my fault a little for trusting a hedgehog that told me to jump out a window...' You thought. But that didn't matter anymore. Nothing did. You clenched your eyes shut. This was it. This was the end.

"Gotcha!"

You felt something grab onto your hand in the air. Slowly, you opened your eyes to find yourself floating hundreds of feet in the air.

"WHAT THE FUCK!?" You screamed, terrified.

"Don't worry, I've got you!"

You looked up at what caught you. It seemed to be some kind of... fox? There was something spinning behind it that seemed to be keeping the two of you in the air. 'Are those... tails?' You thought before realizing, 'This must that guy that Sonic was talking about!'

However, the thing that stood out to you the most about your savior wasn't his tails. Instead, it was his eyes. You stared into his big blue eyes, full of wonder and innocence. He stared back into your eyes.

"You... saved me..." You managed to stammer. "T-thank you..."

You both remained there, suspended in air, separated from everything else. It seemed as if the whole world had stopped at that moment. and there was nothing else in the entire universe besides you and Tails. You stared at each other in silence, and for the first time since you had arrived in this world, you felt at peace.

*BOOM*

The moment didn't last long, as you soon heard an explosion coming from the ground. You and Tails both looked over to see Sonic fighting Eggman's army of robots.

"Hey, that's Sonic!" You exclaimed. "We need to help him!"

"Right!" Tails yelled, beginning to fly over to the battle.

Now that you had both regained focus for the fight ahead, you prepared to help Sonic. As Tails brought you closer to the ground, you reeled your arm back and got ready for your first hit. When you finally reached the ground, Tails let go, and you swung at the one of the robots with all of your strength.

*CLANG*

"OW! Shit!" You screamed, pulling your arm back and holding it to your chest. It was only now that you realized that maybe punching giant hunks of metal might not be a good idea.

"Are you ok!?" Tails yelled over to you.

"Yeah, I'm fine!" You called back while dodging the robot's attacks. "But I can't fight this guy without any weapons! I'll break every bone in my damn body!"

"Here, use this!"

You looked over to see Tails throw something to you. It wasn't until you caught it that you realized what it was.

'A... pipe wrench?'

You didn't have any time to think about the practicality of the weapon as the robot lunged at you once more. But this time, instead of dodging it, you swung at it with the wrench as hard as you could.

*WHACK*

Your hit landed, and the robot went flying backwards, skidding across the ground. When it finally came to a stop, you waited in a fighting stance, watching to see if it got back up. But instead, it just remained lying on the ground, dormant.

'Holy shit... that was awesome!' You thought, relaxing as you began to examine the pipe wrench in your hand. 'Ya know, I think I could get used to this thing..."

Your thoughts were soon interrupted by a nearby explosion. You looked over just in time to see a blue blur, which you assumed was Sonic, go completely through one of the bigger bots. You also noticed Tails hovering in the air, shooting any of the badniks that got close to him with some kind of gun. But after scanning the battlefield, you were unable to find Shadow anywhere.

'Where the hell did he go?' You thought, before regaining focus on the fight. 'Whatever. I'm sure I'll find him eventually.'

At the top of a nearby hill, Shadow stood watching the battle unfold. While it was true that he was a slightly interested in seeing who emerged victorious, Shadow was mostly concerned about watching the new human. He wanted to learn about them. Why they were here, what their plans were, and more importantly, if they were a threat.

Once the battle had ended, and (Y/N), Sonic, and Tails walked away as the winners, Shadow turned from the battlefield, ready to return to base. He achieved what he had set out to accomplish to do here. He studied and learned more about the human... as well as ensured that they were safe.

When Shadow got back to the hideout, he sat down, lost in thought. Rouge soon entered the room, looking for Shadow.

"Hey Shadz. Welcome back. I'm assuming (Y/N) has been rescued by now?"

Shadow scoffed. "Obviously."

"Well thanks for the help, dear. Consider it part of your repayment for me letting you stay at my little home here."

"Hmph."

Rouge sat down next to Shadow, who was clearly still occupied thinking about (Y/N).

"What's up Shadz? Why do you seem so worried? We saved them! Plus, they're with Sonic now. Everything's fine!"

"First of all, stop calling me that." Shadow said coldly. Rouge rolled her eyes. "Secondly, I... have a bad feeling about this."

"What do you mean?"

"This human showing up in our world. It can't be good news."

"Oh, come on, you don't know that! Besides, it's not like we can do anything about it. It's not out problem anymore."

"Maybe." Shadow said, walking away, but stopping just before leaving the room. "But if something happens, I will do whatever I must to protect this world." He continued to walk away.

"Even if it means killing that damn human."
