Lost Portals (Tails X Reader)

The Echidna

After what had seemed like days, you and Tails finally emerged from his workshop, content with the results you had gathered. As you came up the stairs, you ran into Sonic, who appeared to have just finished making lunch.

"Is that a... chili dog?" You asked, pointing at what Sonic was holding.

"Yep." He responded before talking a bite. "There's some more on the counter if you're hungry." He said with his mouth full before beginning to walk away.

"Oh wait, Tails, hold up," Sonic said, turning around to face the two of you. "Here, I found this on the kitchen floor. You must have forgotten it there at some point." He said, tossing a wrench to Tails.

"Oh... thanks..." Tails said, scratching his head. "Weird... I could've sworn I just saw this in the workshop..."

*KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK*

His thinking was quickly interrupted by an aggressive knocking on the front door.

"I got it!" Sonic said, running over to the door so fast you could barely see him.

He had barely cracked the door open before some kind of red creature had burst inside the house. Although you couldn't quite tell what species it was, you could tell that it was extremely angry.

"WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM, SONIC!?" They exclaimed, pushing Sonic back.

"Oh, great..." Sonic said, rolling his eyes. "Happy to see you too, Knux..."

"A RANDOM HUMAN SHOWS UP OUT OF NOWHERE AND YOU JUST COMPLETELY TRUST THEM!? FOR NO REASON!? HOW DO YOU KNOW THIS PERSON DOESN'T WANT TO DESTROY US ALL!?"

"I, uh... don't? I guess?" Sonic said, clearly not interested in the conversation.

"I BET YOU JUST WENT AND TOLD THEM EVERYTHING, HUH!? ALL ABOUT THE POWERS OF THE CHAOS EMERALDS AND THE MASTER EMERALD, RIGHT!? THEY KNOW DON'T THEY!?"

"Well they do now." Sonic said, looking over at you. It was only at this point that the creature realized that both you and Tails were also standing in the room, listening to their conversation.

"YOU!" He shouted, walking directly up to you, pointing at your face. "WHY ARE YOU HERE!? WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?"

"Geez, dude, I don't know! Chill!" You responded, a little worried that he was about cave your skull in.

"Knuckles, calm down!" Tails yelled, trying to keep him quiet for long enough to explain the situation. "Knuckles, this is (Y/N). No one knows how or why they got here, so me and Sonic are trying to figure out a way to get them home. They aren't here to cause any trouble, okay?"

The creature looked at Tails before looking back at you, still furious. "Hmph!" He put his arms down and stepped back from you. You finally exhaled, not realizing that you had been holding your breath in the first place.

"Mark my words, human!" He exclaimed. "I am Knuckles the Echidna, and I WILL uncover the true reason for your presence on this world!"

"Ooooooh..." You said, thinking aloud. "That's what you are. An echidna!"

Clearly annoyed by your comment, Knuckles turned around and began to storm out of the house. But before he left, he stopped in front of Sonic.

"You'd better be careful with who you trust, Sonic." He said, before walking out.

"I'll be sure to keep that in mind." Sonic called, before closing the door. "Sorry about that (Y/N). Knuckles can be a bit... aggressive at times."

"Eh, it's fine... I'm used to it by now." You paused for a moment, thinking. "But... what was the thing he was talking about? The power of some... emeralds?"

"The chaos emeralds!" Tails said, chiming in. "They're some of the most powerful objects in this world!"

"Yeah, they make me turn yellow and like, hit stuff harder." Sonic said, as he began to eat another chili dog.

"Huh... cool." You said, deciding to ignore how absolutely crazy that sounded.

"Maybe we can use their power to open some kind of portal to send you home!" Tails suggested, full of enthusiasm.

"Really? Sweet! Where are they?" You questioned.

"Well, that part is kind of a problem..." Tails trailed off.

"Yeah, they've been missing for a while now. However..." Sonic said, throwing his arm around Tails. "This guy is great at finding them. Or at least, making trackers that find them for us."

"Yeah, but... it might take some time for me to build one. And besides, even if we did get the emeralds, we don't know how to concentrate their energy in a way that would allow us to open inter-dimensional portals."

"Well, at least it's a start!" You chimed. It was exciting to finally have some lead that might be able to get you home.

"And, we do have a friend that's pretty well-versed in alternate dimensional travel." Sonic pointed out.

"Wait, really?" You asked. "Who?"

It had been a few days since she had arrived on Mobius. She had returned to this dimension yet again due to the calling of the sol emeralds. She could feel that they needed her to return to here, but she couldn't quite figure out why.

Blaze had been lost here for a while, going from town to town knocking on doors in an attempt to find Sonic. He was her best chance at figuring out why she had been summoned to this world. But so far, she had received no luck in her mission. However, she did manage to discover rumors of another human that had appeared somewhere on Mobius. It was likely that this sudden arrival not only had something to do with her purpose here, but also managed to rope in Sonic at some point along the way. Either way, finding this stranger had become another critical goal of her search.

As Blaze continued on searching for any sign of Sonic or the human, she couldn't shake a certain awful feeling that she had. It was as if some horrible presence had been looming over her head ever since she came to Mobius. The sol emeralds almost never called her through dimensions for any positive reason. She wanted to brush it off as if it were nothing, but the feeling clung to her wherever she went. She knew it was true.

Something terrible was going to happen.
