The Tests

"Ughh..." You groaned, opening your eyes. The sunlight was shining through a nearby window directly onto your face. Squinting your eyes, you sat up and looked around. 'Where am I...' You wondered, shortly before the events of the past 3 days came rushing back into your head. 'Oh yeah... talking animals and all that... strange.'

"Morning, (Y/N)!"

You looked over your shoulder to find Tails standing in the kitchen cooking breakfast. You weren't sure what he was making, but whatever it was, it smelled delicious. It wasn't until now that you realized how long it had been since you had eaten anything.

"Hey Tails..." You said, only half-awake. "What's up?"

"I made you breakfast!" He responded, smiling.

"Oh, hell yeah. I'm starving." You said sleepily, standing up and waltzing over to the table. As you sat down, Tails placed a plate in front of you. On it were freshly baked pancakes, eggs, and bacon. You immediately started eating.

"Oh my god, dude, this is amazing." You said with your mouth full. Tails giggled.

"So, how's this world different from yours?" Tails questioned. "I'm trying to do some research on the theory of multiple dimensions, so any information is helpful."

You paused to think before responding. "It's pretty similar to this one actually. Well, about as similar as multiverses can get at least."

"How so?"

"I guess the biggest difference I've noticed so far is that on Earth, everyone is human instead of being some kind of animal. We still have animals, though. They just can't speak, or walk on two legs, or have advanced thoughts like you guys do."

"Huh... weird..." Tails said, thinking.

"Actually, something else that's different is that Earth is a lot more... industrialized than here. Pretty much everywhere is crowded and filled with buildings and people. But here, it's so much more... quiet and... peaceful. It's nice."

"So... would you ever consider living in a place like this?" Tails asked, avoiding eye contact.

"Nah, probably not. Don't get me wrong, I like it and all. But it's just... I grew up in the city, so... that's just what I consider to be my home. Where I belong." Tails looked disappointed by your answer.

"But, uh... hey, I'm here now, right?" You said quickly, trying to cheer him up. "And for now, I don't have much of a choice. So, I might as well enjoy it while I can."

Tails smiled.

Once you had finished eating, you followed Tails into his workshop. He said that he was ready to start testing on you, which made you a little nervous. You trusted Tails, of course, but something about this just made you feel a little uneasy.

"You have nothing to be concerned about, okay?" Tails told you, noticing your tension. "Everything here is completely safe. I won't let you get hurt at all." You relaxed. His words comforted you.

The tests began with pretty standard stuff that you had experienced before at your regular doctor's exams. He checked things like your eyesight, heartbeat, reflexes, and blood pressure. But it wasn't long before these simple evaluations started to become more and more complicated. Tails began testing things that you didn't even understand using what seemed to be custom homemade machinery. 'This guy really is a genius...' You thought to yourself.

"So... what does this one do?" You asked Tails as you stepped into a big, cylindrical machine.

"I call this the Energy Manipulator Fusion, or the EMF for short. It can measure the length and frequency of the electromagnetic waves that your body gives off and compares its consistency to opposing waves that normally reside on Mobius!" He said, his voice filled with passion.

"Wow... electric frequencies and... stuff... high tech." You said, absolutely clueless about what he was saying.

Tails giggled. "Ok, all I need you to do is stand in the center and stay very still. This should only take a minute."

The machine quickly began to whirl around you, scanning you up and down. Once the machine had stopped running, Tails checked his computer to see the results.

"Wow... this is incredible! Your electromagnetic field is like nothing I've ever seen before. I don't think Eggman even has frequencies like this!"

"So... what does that mean?"

"This means that you radiate some kind of... crazy energy that this world has never experienced before! Who knows what you could be capable of with this unique kind of electricity inside you! You could be incredibly strong! Or super fast, like Sonic! For all we know, you might even be able to fly!"

"Really?" You said, looking down at yourself. "I don't know man, I feel pretty normal. And I definitely couldn't do that stuff before."

"Well... I guess it could also be some kind of... underlying power that's being held inside you. But if that's the case..." He paused for a moment to think. "With that kind of energy stuck lingering in your body... it could potentially have some seriously harmful side effects... potentially terminal."

"What!?" You said, suddenly much more focused than you were five seconds ago. "Terminal!? As in death!?"

"Don't worry! I'm sure that you're fine!" Tails said quickly, trying to comfort you. "That's strictly a worse-case scenario kind of deal. Besides, there's a decent chance that these results mean nothing anyway! Maybe your world is just focused on a different frequency than ours, which would explain your strange energy."

You began to feel more at ease with the situation. 'Yeah, its probably nothing... I'm fine...'

"Hey, (Y/N)," Tails said. You looked up at him. "I promise you, everything is going to be okay."

You looked into his eyes before you wrapped your arms around each other in a tight embrace.

"Thanks."
