It was like clockwork. Rinse and repeat, the same process day in and day out. But, unbeknown to you, today things were going to change. And not for the better. You wandered into the ring and the crowd cheered. The ringmasters voice was loud in your ears and sweat beaded on your forehead. He ordered you to change, and you did; wanting to get this act over and done with. He touched your feathers with the torch and you were set ablaze, sent to die for the art.

'Now! Do it again!'

His shouts echoed in your ears and you willed the transformation to happen again. It always got more painful the longer each cycle went on. Each time you re-formed, created feathers, a beak and claws before being set on fire by his torch and turned into ash again.

Distantly, from somewhere in the crowd you heard someone call your name.

'(Y/n), (Y/n)!'

Exhausted, and sore from the constant pain, you fell forward onto the ground, hands hitting the dirt hard. You shut your eyes, not caring about any punishment that may come; you just wanted to sleep, whole and in your own body again.

You felt your body being lifted up off the ground and the calling of your name sounded closer to your ears. Slowly you opened your eyes, only to find Newt's looking into them.

'(Y/n). It's alright. You're safe now.'

You felt Newt's hands hold onto your shoulders and you sank back into his embrace.

'Do you want to tell me what you were dreaming about? I'll give you time, if you need it.'

You breathed in and out a few times and fiddled with the bed-sheets.

'I couldn't- I couldn't stay in human form. He was going to blow me away if I didn't change back time after time. It was horrible.'

'That does sound terrible. Well, you're with me now. You won't ever have to go back there.'

You smiled, you knew everything would be okay (and, even if it wasn't, Newt would always be by your side).
