Callie
A week later, I was working in my office when my phone rang. I looked and saw it was Colt video calling me. I furrowed my brow because he usually only calls before and after practice never in the middle of the day. I grabbed my phone anyway and hit the green button on the screen. "Maddy!" I yelled for her, "Daddy's calling!" I heard her feet hit the floor of her room as Colt popped up on the screen, and rolled my eyes.
"What is that face for?" I heard his deep voice ask with a chuckle. I sighed and shook my head.
"Your daughter won't stop jumping on her bed today."
"I will talk to her. How is your day going?" I took a deep breath.
"This site... well, the client really, is giving me trouble. As soon as I have all of his request met, he changes them," I ran my hand through my hair. I had more than once this week wanted to rip it all out.
"I'm sorry, Gummy Bear. You really need a break, don't you?" I could see the look of guilt on his face.
"Don't start," I pointed at him. He had been telling me all week how bad he felt that he was finally in our lives, but was so busy with work that I was still the primary one taking care of Maddy. "I'm fine."
"Daddy!" Maddy yelled from behind me. I turned, smiling at her reaction. I loved that she had him in her life now.
"Giggles!" I heard him yell back just as excited. I handed her the phone as the doorbell rang. I went to answer it while they talked.
My mother, Tanya, and Daisy were standing there with big smiles on their faces when I opened the door. "What are you all doing here?" I asked them. Their faces told me they were up to something.
"What do you mean?" Mom asks as she walks past me into the house. The other two following her.
"Colt hasn't told you yet? Daisy sighed. I shook my head slowly wondering what she meant. She huffed and shook her head. "What the hell is he doing? I am ready to go!" I looked at my mother and Tanya, seeing that they were just as shocked as I was at Daisy's outburst.
I turned and walked back to where I had left Maddy. She started jumping up and down when I walked in and she wore the biggest smile I had ever seen her have. "Why are you so happy?" I asked her laughing.
"Daddy said MeeMaw and Gigi are watching me today!" She handed me the phone running out of the room. I turned to look at the two women who were apparently watching my child and raised my eyebrows waiting for them to explain. They both just pointed to the phone in my hand. I raised it up to see that Colt was still there.
"Care to explain?"
"Of course," he laughed. "You and Daisy are going to get into her car and head to Atlanta. When you get there, you will be enjoying the day and the spa and me and Tuck will meet you later for dinner," he informed me. I couldn't help but smile until something crossed my mind.
"What about the kids? Maddy really wants to go to the game," I reminded everyone. Tanya took a couple steps toward.
"Don't worry," she placed a hand on my shoulder. "Me and your mother will be driving up with your father's first thing in the morning. She won't miss anything." I looked at Colt on my phone and he confirmed his mother's words with a nod as did Daisy and my mom when I looked at each of them.
"Okay," I smiled.
"That's my girl," Colt said, "I have to get back to practice, I love you." He hung up before I could say the words back to him, but I knew he needed to get back it was against the rules to use their phones any time before the day was over.
