Callie
5 years later
"Callie, look at you!" Amy said as she walked through the front door with her youngest daughter, Hailey's, hand in hers. "You look ready to pop," she laughed before turning to look at Hailey, "go find Matthew," she told her getting her to nod before running off to find my son who was nearly 4 like her. They were born 2 weeks apart and had been best friends since they could crawl. Amy had warmed up to me more and more over the first few months of Colt being on the team. When her husband had gotten injured almost a year later, most of the team wives had practically turned their backs on her but I offered help in any way I could. Watching their kids while she worked and making dinner several times a week until he could at least get around to do that, led to us talking and getting closer and closer. Now, next to Liz, she is my best friend.
"I'm about to evict him anyway I can," I sighed adjusting Kelly, the birthday girl and 1 year old on my hip. "I can't find Colt," I rolled my eyes, causing her to laugh. I had been looking for him for 20 minutes and he was nowhere but I needed to sit which meant that he had to take Kelly because she refused to be put down ever. I led her to the living room, taking a seat on the couch.
"Let me take her," Amy reached over and took her before sitting down next to me. "Hi, Miss Kelly. Are you giving momma a hard time?" Amy cooed over her as I sat back on the couch. "Anyone else here yet?" I shook my head.
"My parents are coming, but they had to pick the cake up since Colt forgot and his parents are going to be late as are my sister and brother." Amy nodded not looking away from Kelly. She started singing her happy birthday quietly as I felt my eyes drooping.
"Please tell me the nanny is here today," Britney sighed, walking in with her twins in each arm. My eye flew back open and I couldn't help but laugh at the look on her face. Miles and Dean were the most energetic kids I knew. Britney had been through 6 nannies since they hit the terrible 2's and she was always happy when my part time nanny was available because she loved them and knew how to handle them.
"Sara is here," I smiled, making a face at Miles and pointing toward the playroom.
"Moooommm!" I heard Maddy yell from the stairs making me groan. She rounded the corner before I could even prepare myself. "He's doing it again!" She pointed behind her and I saw Colt walk in with an innocent look on his face.
"I just said that her skirt was too short," he shrugged, walking over to stand in front of Amy reaching for Kelly. "Hi easy daughter, let's go find something to snack on," he cooed at her as he walked out of the room toward the kitchen leaving me to deal with Maddy.
"Don't eat anything that is for the party!" I yelled after him. Not getting a response, I turned to look at Maddy who's arms were folded across her chest.
"Maddy," Amy started drawing her attention away from me. "Your mom is so tired and everyone will be here soon. Anyway, you can just appease your dad for today?" I watched Maddy's frown morph into a smile. Amy had a way with her and was usually able to talk her down. Maddy turned and went back up to her room to change.
"Thank you," I sighed, leaning back.
"Of course," she smiled, "Harry and Jarome should be here soon, but where is Liz?" She asked me.
"She decided to wait until Jarome got done at practice and just ride with him since Cleo is staying here tonight so they can go out on a date." Amy nodded.
"Anything more I can help with?" I shook my head and closed my eyes.
"I told you we should wait until after the baby was born to throw this party," I heard Colt, say from behind me, causing me to groan from not being able to take even the smallest nap.
