LAN TENGFEI
(The Sky Empire)*The Imperial Palace*
His Majesty, Emperor YiLei, is about to make himself comfortable on the throne and address his council of ministers when a guard rushes inside unannounced.
"Who dares enter without permission?" The Emperor's voice booms in the throne room.
The guard stops dead in his tracks and gulps; his eyes to the floor, he informs, "Your Majesty, we are unable to locate the crown prince."
"Speak clearly." The Emperor orders.
"He was supposed to be back after listening to the farmers' complaints. But as usual... I mean, a maiden caught his eye, and he decided to follow her instead."
The Emperor sighs and mutters, "One is a little too interested in women and the other, not at all." he rolls his eyes and orders, "Continue."
The guard nods, "He must have seen something unusual there. He told us that he was going to check the borders. The next moment he was gone."
"Gone! You mean, his signal disappeared entirely?"The guard nods.
"This boy will be the death of me." He laments, clutching his chest. "Order YiHuang to go check...on land. " Disgust is clearly visible in the king's voice when he utters the words 'on land.'
The Emperor hated the land dwellers: humans. It left a bitter taste in his mouth every time he spoke about them.
It was not YiLei's fault that he hated them. Some would even say that he was a benevolent Emperor. After all, hadn't he allowed humans to live on Earth even after the things they had done to harm the planet. The YuanJians kept in touch with each other through signals; every YuanJian had a different one. They were born with it. And all of them were recorded in journals. The security department kept these journals. It was their way of ensuring their people's well-being.
The signal only went out under two circumstances, first, if the citizen died or the second, if somehow, they crossed the security barrier and ventured beyond it.
The signal could show extreme emotional fluctuation as well. Since the YuanJians were taught from childhood to control their emotions, any prominent fluctuation in their signal meant danger.
They believed that a calm mind and body could achieve great things, that logic and reasoning were the basis for building strong character.
The YuanJians believed in initiating and accepting the least amount of physical contact. More often than not, partners touched each other with the sole aim of procreation.
If a human had to describe the YuanJian way of life, they would call it unromantic or devoid of passion.
But like every society, there were exceptional cases here too. In fact, two of them were in the Royal family itself. The Crown Prince, YiYang, was a known appreciator of the fairer sex, much to his father's disappointment. Had he been born a human, he would probably be referred to as a playboy.
The other was Prince YiHuang; he was opposite of his elder brother. He kept a little too much distance from the fairer sex. Though, that was not the problem. It was just that the man avoided everyone except his older brother and his mentor. He had no friends. He was like a monk who only came out of his monastery when duty called. His father's words were law for him.
