"Her lungs have failed!"

Those words sunk in like dynamite, and every part of my body was being ripped apart as the words exploded.

"No!" I shouted. "Do something! You have to do something!" Tears flowed like a waterfall.

"There's nothing I can do!" She pleaded, but those sick words only made me scream louder.

"Then get the doctor! Surely he can do someth-"

"I am the doctor."

She was the doctor, no wonder I hadn't seen the other nurse.

The room quieted, the only sound were my sobs.

She was the doctor. She couldn't do anything. There was no way we could help my dying love. This was the end.

"Sir, I am truly sorry-"

"Get out!" I shouted, my sobs taking a firm grip on my breath.

"Excuse me?" She peeped, as if my harsh words had weakened her.

"GET OUT!" I screamed. "You're not really sorry! You don't care! You never knew this girl! Get out so I can at least spend my last moments with her in peace!"

The doctor quickly and silently walked out.

I stared at Lily.

"Pleast start breathing, my darling, please."

Sickening sounds filled the room as she gasped for air.

"I'm so sorry!" I cried. "I am so, so sorry, this is going to be painful, and, I can't do anything to help you. But you can make it through this darling, you can make it through this."

But she was dying, and there was nothing we could do. She wasn't going to make it through this, was she?

The heart rate moniter started to get louder, it was going off.

Her heart was failing.

This was the end.

"No!" I screamed. "You can't leave me! Lily! We're supposed to get married! We're supposed to have a family!"

The beeps got louder.

"Please! You can't leave me! You can't leave me! You have to stay here with me! Please! You can't just become memories Lily! You can't just be my memories!"

Time suddenly stopped.

What would she want?

She was dying, what would she want to happen with her last few moments.

Finally, the realization kicked in.

She would want me to sing.

The beeps turned into rings as I took a deep breath and let the words flow from my lips.

"Symphony, of silver tears, sing to me and soothe the ring in my ears. Overcast, these gloomy nights wear on, but I'm holding fast, because it's darkest just before the dawn."

I reached for one of the many Star Lilies I had brought her, and slid it into behind her ear.

"I sang my princess fast to sleep, because she was my dream come true, oh Annmarie believe me, I loved you. But now those lonely lullabies just dampen my tired eyes, because I can't forget you... Because I can't forget you.

I'll disolve when the rain pours in, when the nightmares take me, I will scream with the howling wind, because it's a bitter world and I'd rather dream."

I brushed the hair from her face and took both her hands into mine.

"Dizzy love, turned a Star Lily pink, and hung above our lids too flushed to blink. But icy blue, froze the fairy tale cold."

Those words brought back the memories of the icy day when we crossed the street, and a car came.

"Though I treasured you, and you sparkled with someone to hold.

I sang my princess fast to sleep, because she was my dream come true, Oh Annmarie believe me...

I loved you, but now those lonely lullabies, just dampen my tired eyes, because I can't forget you. Because I can't forget you.

Annmarie, remember me? I'll never forget you.

Annmarie, remember me? I'll never forget you.

Lily Ryan Lamont, remember me? I'll never forget you..."

The beeps of the heart rate moniter became one long ring and the room quieted as the life left her body and I sang my princess fast to sleep, one last time.
