Chapter 7

I looked up at Lauren and she began.

"Well, When I was born I had an older brother. He cared for me and protected me. He promised that he would never leave me. When I was 10 my brother came down from college to visit for my birthday. He got out of his car and I saw him through the window. I went outside and I ran to him. I was happy that he was there. I jumped onto him and hugged him and he hugged back. We didn't realize we were in the middle of the road. All we heard was a car honk and then it was too late. The car hit us. We were rushed to the emergency room and went straight into surgery. I woke up and I looked over to my brother. We bother were hooked up to a heart monitor and our family and friends were in the room. We heard what had happened and Josh broke down. He said that he was sorry that he didn't save me and that he couldn't protect me from it. I told him it was okay. And he calmed down. Two days later I woke up and there were nurses changing the cast on my right arm. I looked over at Josh but he wasn't there. I started to freak out because I didn't know where he was. I kept asking 'Where is my brother? Where is he?' but they would just say 'He's fine. He's okay. You don't need to worry.' They finished fixing my cast and my mom came in crying. She told me 'He's gone.' I was going to ask her who is gone but I asked her if it was Josh and I broke down crying. I cried myself to sleep every night for a whole year. I couldn't believe that he was gone. I visited his grave everyday and I told him everything. I told him that I was going to Catesforde. This morning I went to him and told him 'I'm leaving for Catesforde today and that I won't be coming everyday and that I will be coming to visit for a while. But that I will be coming whenever there is a long break. I told him that I might even bring a friend next time." Lauren stopped talking and started to cry. I hugged her and she started to cry even harder.

"Its okay. Its okay." I said. Its hard for Lauren to talk about her brother and its hard for me to talk about my mom.

"Lauren how about we don't talk about your brother or my mom much okay? Because its hard for you to talk about him and its hard for me to talk about my mom." I said. Lauren looked at me and nodded her head.

"Okay." she said.

"I'm here for you for everything okay?" I told her, and I meant it.

"Okay. Same for you. I'm here for everything." she said smiling.

"We should go get some pizza." Lauren said standing up and opened the door.

"How about we clean ourselves up first." I suggested. She has mascara on her face and I had some on my shoulder from her crying.

"Right." she said quickly and walked into the bathroom. I changed into a blue shirt with a floral design and she fixed her makeup. We grabbed our hoodies and walked to the Pizza Parlor.

When we got inside my mouth watered from the smell of pizza.

"I'll get the pizza and you can find a place to sit. Is pepperoni okay?" Lauren said.

"Yep." I turned around and bumped into somebody. I looked up and noticed that it was a boy. He had shaggy dark brown hair and chocolate brown eyes.

"Sorry." he said.

"No its fine. I should have been paying attention." I said and walked to a table. Lauren came with the pizza and two Dr. Peppers.

"Why are you blushing?" she asked taking a piece of pizza.

"I ran into a cute boy." I said taking a sip of Dr. Pepper.

"Who?" she asked.

"That boy." I said tipping my head towards the cash register.

"Luke? Do think he's cute?" Lauren asked.

"Yeah he is cute." I said blushing.

"Aww. Someone has a crush!" Lauren yelled.

"Shhh. Lauren!" I whispered.

"Sorry." she giggled. We finished the pizza and then headed back to our room. When we got in I headed for the shower. After showering Lauren took one and then we both sat on our beds.

"Okay. So you like Luke?" Lauren said clapping her hands together.

"Yeah. Who do you like?" I said giving her a hurry-up look.

"Well, I like Greg. He will be in our science class. We have all the same classes." Lauren said handing me both mine and her schedule.

Okay so my schedule isn't that bad;

1st period- Math

2nd period- Science

3rd period- English

4th period- History

5th period- Theatre

6th period- Spanish 3

7th period- Free

"Why do we have 7th period free?" I asked. I never had a free period before.

"Because we do horseback riding we don't need to have gym. Pretty sweet right?" Lauren asked.

"Yeah." I handed her schedule back to her and put mine on my nightstand.

"See you in the morning." I said and turned on my right side.

"See you in the morning." Lauren said and then I heard her lay down.

I woke up to Lauren's alarm. I forgot to turn mine on last night. I got up showered and then pulled on a pair of washed jeans and a purple v-neck.

"Remeber today after school is testing. Every rider will be there. We can warm-up together if that's okay." Lauren said coming out of the bathroom looking nice as ever.

"Right. And yeah we can warm-up together." I said and grabbed my bag. "Ready?"

"Yeah." Lauren grabbed her bag and we left for breakfast. I grabbed some cereal and two pieces of toast. We sat down at a table and just then Violet and Harley walked up to us.

"Well isn't it the new girl and her friend. Listen this is our school and you will listen to everything I say. Got it?" Violet said in a demanding tone.

"Yep. Got it." I said sarcastically but only Lauren caught it. She nodded her head and then Violet smiled, and walked away. We stood up, threw away our trash and headed to first period.
