Horse Whisperer (Hiatus)

Chapter 8

"I can't believe that Violet didn't catch my sarcasm." I said as we walked by the library.

"I know. She's not the smartest sometimes." Lauren said. We continued to walk towards the math and science building. I watched all the other kids break away from friends and go in the opposite directions towards their classes. We walked up the steps and opened the big glass door. When we got inside the building I looked over at Lauren. 

"What room are we in?" I asked and she waved for me to follow. We walked down the hall and entered the last door on the right. We walked through the door and sat down in the last two empty seats. The bell rang and in walked our math teacher Mr. Sykes.

"Hello class." he said.

"Hello Mr. Sykes." we said.

"So, I'm going to do attendance and then we'll look over and talk about the syllabus and then your first homework assignment." Mr. Sykes said pulling out a leather book. When he called my name I gave him a wave of my hand and then pulled out a pen. He passed out the syllabus and I scanned over it.

"So as you can see there will be quite a lot of problems for your assignments. We'll go over today's lesson and then for homework you will do the 30 problems at the end of the lesson tonight." he said as students groaned and whispered to each other.

After a really long math lesson Lauren and I walked out of the room and headed upstairs to science. We sat down next to each other and I set my bag down next to me on the floor. Students started to come in and Lauren nudged my arm and I looked at her.

"That's him." she said nodding her head towards the door. A boy with blond hair and blue eyes wearing a red polo shirt walked towards the only empty seat left. The bell rang and in came a lady in what seemed her early 30's.

"Hello, my name is Mrs. Amanda. Welcome to science. We'll go through the syllabus like all of your classes today and then we'll begin our first lesson." she said and went through attendance so fast that I  almost forgot to raise my hand when she called my name.

"Please open your books to page 2, and read about the cardiovascular system and then study the diagram of the heart." she said and I pulled out the book from under the desk. Once I opened the book and saw the heart diagram I mentally slapped myself. I forgot to tell them about Marcus' heart, that will be the first thing I do after the riding test. I read the lesson and then sat there just looking at the heart only thinking about Marcus. The bell snapped me out of my thoughts and I closed the book. I threw it into my bag and then tried to find Lauren, since she left me in there. The rest of the day went by in a flash and then the time that I dreaded was about to happen.

"You'll do fine." Lauren said as she threw on her boots as I walked out of the bathroom wearing my plaid pants and a pink shirt that matched. Lauren was wearing her grey pants with a black shirt. I threw my boots on and grabbed my helmet.

"Remember you'll get to warm up with me and some other riders. Plus, I'll introduce you into Luke and Greg." she said and I smiled.

"They're both riders?" I asked and she smiled.

"Yep. Now let's go before we don't get a place to clean and warm up." she said and we left to the stable. Once we got to the stable I saw many riders cleaning their horses, or even tacking up. We headed towards the saddle room and grabbed our tack. Then we headed to our horses' stalls.

"Hey girl." I said before walking into Rocky's stall. 

"I think I'm going to clean and tack her up in the stall." Lauren said looking around the hall of the stable we were in.

"Same here." I said and grabbed the grooming box. I brushed her mane and tail and then used the curry comb to clean off her body.

"How are you not dirty yet?" I asked and Rocky just nickered. "Okay. I see." I said laughing. I grabbed the hoof pick and cleaned out her hooves. After double checking that I left nothing I grabbed the saddle and hoisted it up onto her back. I tightening the girth and then grabbed the bridle. I put my hand on the metal bit and pushed up and she took the bit and I pulled the bridle onto her head.

"Ready to go?" Lauren asked. I was finishing up the neck strap and then put my helmet on.

"Yep." I said and lead Rocky behind Lauren and Sancho.  We got into a small outdoor arena that had a few kids already warming up in.

"Hey Lauren. Who's this?" a girl with red hair asked.

"Guys this is my roommate Luna. Luna meet April." Lauren said pointing to the red head.

"That's Greg." she pointed to Greg on a bay. "That's Luke." she pointed to the boy I ran into on a grey. "And that is Maddie." she pointed to the blond girl on a chestnut.

"Hi." they said and I smiled.

"Hi." 

"So ready for the test?" Maddie asked and Lauren nodded while mounting.

"Yep." she said adjusting herself and then walking Rocky behind Maddie as they warmed up. I mounted Rocky and lead her behind Greg. 

"What about you Luna? You ready?" April asked and I looked down at my hands.

"Yeah. I guess. I mean how hard can it be?" I said and I heard some giggling.

"Its not easy if that's what you think." Luke said and I looked at him. 

"Well what do you have to do?" I asked and they all looked at each other.

"Well, just a short dressage test and a few jumps." Greg said and I nodded. Piece of cake. I mean he won't give me a harder one than he does to the others. He said that my titles won't affect me during the test. It's all of how I can ride.

"Well its my turn now. Wish me luck." Greg said leading his horse out of the arena.

"Good luck man." Luke said and everyone else just said quick "You don't need it. You'll do fine." sort of thing.

"No one can watch right?" I asked and Lauren shook her head.

"Any one can watch." and then I felt the nerves kick in.

"If its okay since you're the last to go out of us want us to watch?" April said. 

"April! Don't say that." Maddie said.

"Sorry Luna."

"Its fine. I don't mind." I said and Lauren came over to me. 

"Do you want to tell them about your titles and the accident?" she asked. 

"No. Not until after I test." I said and she nodded. After a while everyone had gone and it was finally my turn to test.

"Here goes nothing girl." I said and walking Rocky into the arena.
