After cleaning up, I made my way home with the cars passing by me on the one way street I walked on. I looked at the people walking in and out of the restaurants, laughing and smiling.
It reminded me I hadn't eaten all day besides taste-testing the frosting from earlier. I decided that maybe Alex and I could grab some food and talk. About Austin in particular.
I took my phone out and clicked on Alex's contact, pressing the phone to my ear as I stopped and leaned against a brick wall.
"Hello?" He answered in a cheerful voice.
"Hi!" I said back to him. "Have you eaten dinner yet?"
"I haven't, why? You wanna go out?" He asked me and I chuckled.
"Yes. What about Lou's?" I asked him. Lou's was a locally owned bar and grill that had the best cheeseburgers I'd ever had.
"Sounds great, I could use some cheese fries," he moaned. "Meet you there at seven?"
"See you then!" I chirped before hanging up the phone. I had about twenty minutes to waste so I decided that since my apartment wasn't a far walk from Lou's, I could go home and change before meeting Alex.
I walked into my apartment building and towards the elevators, pressing the button to go up. I waited for a few seconds as it arrived on the ground floor to take me up to the third.
Once I got into my apartment, I checked my phone for the time. 7:47. I threw it onto the couch and then made my way into my bedroom, finding something to wear. I decided on a tie-dye Led Zeppelin shirt and some leggings finished off with a jean jacket.
I shrugged in the mirror and grabbed my keys and my phone off the couch before walking out of the door.
The walk to Lou's wasn't long at all. I walked in and spotted Alex already in a booth illuminated by neon signs. He waved me over and I walked past the hostess to where he was.
"Hi!" I smiled at him, sliding into the booth.
"Hello!" He said cheerfully from across the table. "I ordered myself a beer so if you want one, just tell our waitress when she comes back."
"I could use one," I nodded, sliding out of my jacket. "I am starving. How was your day?"
"It was okay," he shrugged. "I had tons of clients so that was good but working on a Sunday sucks."
"Yeah I went into the bakery today just to get prepared for tomorrow. Monday mornings are ass," I said, crossing my arms as our waitress came back with a beer for Alex.
"Here you go," she smiled at him and then looked at me. "What can I get you?"
"Can I have a Heineken?" I asked as I fiddled with my wallet and pulled out my I.D. She checked it and nodded as I put it back in the clear slot. "Thank you!"
She walked away and I opened my menu, browsing the selection.
"So what's been going on besides baking?" Alex rolled his eyes, sipping his Corona.
"Well, actually," I sighed, looking up from the laminated menu. "That is why I asked you to this lovely dinner."
"Oh so lovely," he joked. "But I am offended that you didn't just want to have this nice meal of greasy cheeseburgers with your favorite neighbor."
"Shut up," I laughed at him as the waitress hurriedly sat down my beer.
"Do you guys know what you want?" She asked us, pulling out a pen and pad.
"I just want the Classic Lou with no tomato or onion and sweet potato fries," I said, closing my menu and handing it to her.
"I want the same thing but cheese fries instead, please," Alex smiled at her, scrunching his nose as he handed her the menu.
