It had been months and Faye finally had a plan aligned.
Faye looked at her daughter in the back seat. She held her doll and looked at her mother. "Where are we going?"
Faye pulled up to a tiny house. "I have someone to pick up." She said.
Alexander walked over to the car. He got in. "Are you sure about this?"
Faye nodded. "I promised my children that they wouldn't grow up the same way I did. And my parents made it very clear that I'm not wanted. You said you would help me. Where is this house?"
"It's not a big as you're used to but my grandmother left it to me. She said I could do whatever I please." He said. He told her the address and Faye drove to the house in silence.
She got out and raised her eyebrow. "This house is nearly the size of my childhood home." She said.
Alexander got out and smiled. "So do you want to stay with me or not?"
Faye opened Alices door. "What do you think love?"
Alice got out and looked at the house. "No grandma?"
Faye shook her head.
Alice smiled. "I love it." She said and hugged her mother.
With Alexander's help, Faye and Alice moves in what few things they had and they found themselves seated outside on the porch.
Fayes phone was filled with endless phone calls and text messages from her parents.
She ignored each one.
Faye held Alice in her lap. Alice has drifted off to sleep.
Alexander crossed his arms. "How far along are you?"
Faye looked at the fireflies. "I'm nearly eight months along." Faye said.
Her phone buzzed again. Her mother.
"What are you going to do now? You clearly won't be working for your parents." Alexander said.
Faye shrugged. "I'm not sure." She said softly. "I have to find something. Alice has so many medical bills now. And they'll continue to grow. What she's has won't go away. We're just hoping to transplant stopped the growth." She said softly.
"You're a strong woman. I'm sure you'll figure something out." Alexander said and stood up. "I'm heading to bed." He said. "Good night Faye."
"Goodnight." Faye said to Alexander and stood up slowly. She pulled Alice up and let her lay her head on Faye's shoulder. She walked her inside and walked to Alice's room. She set Alice onto her new bed and pulled the blanket over her daughters body. She kissed her forehead. "Sleep well my love. I'll figure something out soon." She said softly. She walked out of the room and sighed.
She walked down the hall and walked to her room. She walked onto the balcony she sat on the ground. She didn't know what to do. She didn't know how she could fix any of this.
Her phone buzzed again. Her father this time. Faye sighed and put the phone down beside her. It too everything in her power to ignore her fathers calls.
She closed her eyes and leaned on the rails. "Please let everything be okay." She whispered. "Please let everything be okay."
The next morning came quickly. Faye found herself in the kitchen making breakfast for everyone.
Alexander walked downstairs. "Good morning." He said and walked into the kitchen.
Faye set his plate down. "Good morning. Is Alice up?"
Alexander nodded. "She's dressed and doing her hair last I checked." He said. "She's getting a nasty cough. Should that be worrying?"
Faye frowned and set the rest of the food on the counter. "She didn't have that cough yesterday." She said. "I'll call her doctor." She said and walked out of the kitchen.
She pulled her phone out of her pocket. Just as she did her sisters number popped up. Faye rolled he eyes and declined it.
She walked upstairs. On cue Alice came walking out of her room and coughed. "Morning mommy!"
Faye smiled. "How do you feel? I'm going to call your doctor about that cough."
Alice shrugged. "I don't feel sick." She said.
Faye nodded. "Okay. Breakfast is ready downstairs for you." She said. Alice nodded and walked downstairs.
Faye dialed her doctors number and called. She wanted Faye to bring Alice in tomorrow for a check up.
Faye sighed after the call and sighed. "Please let everything be okay." She repeated. As she had been repeating all night.
