"How did her old pack miss this? This isn't a recent development. Look at the scarring to her lungs and the size of the tumors. This is bad man...she's pregnant right" says the Oncologist? "Yeah...about a month give or take" says the Doctor. "Shit. That rules out Chemo for now at least. Not that it'd do any good with how large the tumors are. My advice is strong antibiotics, steroids, and bronchodilators. Oxygen will definitely help too. Rest and not getting worked up are going to help. The day she hits the halfway point with the pregnancy, we can start chemo. This'll buy her time to put on some weight and muscle too" says the Oncologist.
The Pack Doctor thanks him and calls the Alpha and Beta inside the small conference room, breaking the news to them and telling them the plan of attack. "I'll get these prescriptions started, and leave you two to tell Indigo. We have a long road ahead of us" he says. Indigo exhales slowly when she's told the diagnoses and can't stop the tears of fear that slip from her eyes. Andre pulls her close and comforts her while she cries and sobs, letting all of her pent up pain out. Once she's cries herself to sleep, Andre stays beside her and glares at the Doctor when he walks in to start an iv.
"If I could do more, I would" he apologizes, getting the iv of steroids started. The next morning, Indigo wakes up feeling better than usual and smiles when she finds Andre sleeping next to her. She silently covers him up and limps to the bathroom to relieve herself and freshen up. When she re enters the room, Andre is looking around worriedly. "Good morning Beta" she greets with a big smile, sitting in the reclining chair by the window. Andre sighs in relief and smiles. A nurse brings in her breakfast and Indigo holds back a laugh at Andre's pissed look. The nurse leaves and Andre starts to apologize. "I think that today is as good of a day as any to try out solids. Besides, the oatmeal should be fine" she says, uncovering the food. "Just...be careful. Don't force yourself" Andre says.
Indigo eats slowly and manages to finish a quarter of the bowl before her stomach turns and she pushes it away. Andre sits with her all day, keeping her company while nurses check her ivs and give her medicine. Over the next few weeks, Indigo gains weight and gets stronger physically. Andre takes her on walks around the wards and keeps her spirits up. "How would you like to know the gender of your pup" asks the OBGYN? Indigo smiles and nods excitedly while the plump woman gets set up. She dons the lights and starts moving the wand around before landing on a strong heartbeat. "Let's have a look...wow your pup is strong. Let's see...one...so just one pup. It's a girl! Congrats" says the woman. Indigo beams and hugs Andre, making him blush and his wolf howl in joy as he hugs Indigo.
A few hours later, the Oncologist and Pack Doctor arrive and fill her on their most reception test results. "The good news is that your white blood cell count is up to a much better level. It's still low, but it's a big improvement from when you were admitted. You've gained ten pounds too, which is great. You're two months and a week into your pregnancy, so if you were to decide and go forward with chemo, there would be little risk to your little girl. What are you thinking" asks the Oncologist? "I want to give chemo a go...under one condition. If it becomes clear that it isn't working, we stop immediately. I don't want to waste valuable resources. All I want is to be able to have my little girl, hold her, and love her unconditionally. If the Goddess want me home afterwards, then so be it" Indigo says. "Alright then. We're going to start you full force. No need to wean you into it. It's gonna throw your body off and it won't be pleasant" says the Oncologist. "If I survived rejection and torture by my own mate, I think I can survive chemo side effects" Indigo says.
