"Your first chemo cycle will last four weeks with you having chemo sessions three times a week. After the four weeks, you'll have two weeks off then repeat. If you show a good response to it, we can decrease you to twice a week then once. We'll just have to see" says the a oncologist. "Sounds like a plan. I'll trust you to see it through" Indigo says, smiling.
Indigo spends the next few days preparing for chemo and Andre stay with her overnight. Three days later, Indigo starts chemo and Andre is beside her the whole time until the IV is finished. Indigo smiles at Andre and they eat lunch together before he leaves to deal with buisness. The next few weeks pass in a blur and Indigo starts noticing changes in herself like her hair starting to fall out and her losing a few pounds from throwing up. The Oncologist also notices her veins weakening from the harshness of the chemo and decides to surgically insert a PICC line to give her IVs and nutrients through. He gets her set up with a feed pump and teaches her how to use it. "Unfortunately, your stomach isn't taking kindly to the chemo. I'm moving you over to TPN through your PICC line. You've gotten thinner and I don't want you losing any more weight. During these next two weeks, I want you to relax and do thing that make you feel good" says the Oncologist.
Indigo is discharged the following day and Andre takes her out for a nice lunch and then takes her to a huge baby store where he helps her pick out the necessities. Indigo smiles when he cracks jokes and ignores the stares from the shop employees and other shoppers. Andre insists on buying everything and has it loaded into his truck. When they return to the pack, they find a huge surprise party for Indigo being held. She smiles and laughs, fitting into the pack perfectly. Andre watches her talk to some of the women and play with a few of the pups. "She fits in perfectly" Harrison says. "Indeed she does" Andre says, watching her laugh. "You two have gotten pretty close" says Harrison. "Don't start Harrison. Indigo is like a sister to me. It's not a mate feeling, it's a brotherly love for her" Andre says. "Alright man, I'm sorry. It would've been nice if Indy got a second chance though" he replies.
As the weeks fly by and Indy continues her Chemo, her pregnancy progresses and her stomach swells slightly with each passing week. Before anyone can process it, Indy is four months along and spending more time with the Pack and less time at the hospital. One night, while Andre is out of town, Indigo takes a violent turn for the worst. She wakes up and scrambles to the bathroom where she vomits profusely and blood begins to drip from her nose and mouth as she coughs and wheezes violently. A nurse passing by hears her and rushes to her side, shouting for help. Indigo soon passes out as the shock and blood loss catch up with her.
She wakes up to Andre sobbing beside her and the Doctor's quiet voice telling him that he's sorry. She forces her eyes open and the Doctor looks at her with apologetic eyes. "How're you feeling" he asks? "What happened? All I remember is pain and blood" she croaks? "You had a major relapse Indy. Your body violently reacted to the Chemo, causing severe bleeding. We managed to get the bleeding to stop, but I'm afraid the chemo also has to stop. Your body is way too weak and fragile to handle anymore, even if we did lower the dosage and frequency. We ran another round of tests and it wasn't working. The cancer is spreading slower than before, but I'm sorry to say you haven't got more than a year at most. We'll get you on permanent oxygen and get you squared away" says the Oncologist.
