The two men talked and laughed for a long while. But to the men's displeasure, the sun came up, and Reich had to go. America waved goodbye as the German man disappeared into thin air, he sighed and got ready for the day. He wasn't excited cause he had a "mandatory" world meeting he had to go to twice a month. He ate breakfast and waved goodbye to his kids, at least the ones who were awake. America knew the states could take care of themselves so he didn't have any problems with leaving them alone in the house, the little ones would be taken care of by the older ones, and the little ones would try to not get into trouble, he knew it was inevitable but they tried.
America walked into the meeting hall, it was a normal meeting and he wasn't late, but he also wasn't early as he normally was. He sat down next to Canada, and the two talked until the meeting began. The meeting was boring as usual, and America invited a few of his friends to come over and hang out tomorrow while they were still in town. He walked into his house and saw Texas, California, and Florida tying Arizona to a chair.
"What happened this time?" It wasn't the first time America had walked into a scene like this, and it was always because Arizona had done something.
"He was chasing New Mexico around with a knife," Texas said, staring at the boy who's mouth had been stuffed with a sock to keep him from talking.
"Take the sock out of his mouth so he can explain," America said, rubbing his eyes. He was too tired to deal with this bullshit today. California nodded and took the (now burnt) sock out of Arizona mouth.
"He was telling me that..." Arizona cut himself off, no one besides New Mexico knew who Arizona had a crush on. "...my crush...hates me..."
"Az you can't chase your brother with a knife," America said sighing.
"Come on dad it was hilarious! But we did have to stop the fight when Azzy actually caught him and put 'em in a headlock." Texas chuckled at the memory of New Mexico running around screaming like a girl. California and Florida chuckled as they untied Arizona.
"Please just try to control your temper, I don't have the time or energy to deal with it today," America said, walking up the stairs and falling onto his bed.
"Somezing happen?" Reich's voice appeared again. America rolled over and sat up.
"Eh, my states are driving me insane." America chuckled.
"Penny for your thoughts?" Reich said, he appeared in front of the American.
"It's nothing new, Arizona just tried to stab/choke New Mexico." America sighed, the two sat in awkward silence.
"Wait so you're telling me that someone trying KILL ANOTHER PERSON IS...NORMAL!?" Reich finally said, yelling the last part cause he was very confused. He didn't know America that well did he? Made sense, he favoured pure Germans over any other race.
"I was just as surprised when I first came into my house to see Arizona tied up in ropes while New Mexico hid behind California. At this point, it's gotten normal for me to come in and see it. Nm really needs to stop pissing Arizona off." America said the last part was him thinking aloud, the German didn't care.
"So this has happened more than once? With the same states, I mean."
"Yep."
"I will never understand your states."
"I doubt anyone besides me ever will."
"I doubt you do."
"Oof that hurts!"
"Not sorry." Reich said, the two men sat in silence for a little bit before exploding into laughter. Just as the previous night the two talked until dawn, then Reich had to go again. America understood and got up after Reich had faded away again. He walked downstairs and made himself some coffee, it may or may not have been a mistake not to sleep.
"Oh, morning dad! Didn't know you were gonna be up this early...it's usually only me." New York said walking down the staircase and grabbing a cup of coffee.
"Didn't sleep all that well last night so I thought I'd at least get something productive done," America responded, he didn't mind answering New York's questions, he always had so many. The only question he wouldn't answer right now is why he was up all night.
"That's relatable, I couldn't either. I was doing paperwork with my fellow workaholics." New York said chuckling at his own joke. That's right, there was an actual group of states known as "The Workaholics" none of them seemed to care, they were all too busy to care. Surprisingly some of the younger states were in this group. Such as the four corners and the majority of the thirteen colonies as well.
"Come on, paperwork is really boring. Why don't you be like some of your siblings and go crazy every now and then?" America said, he chuckled under his breath. He didn't understand why, he just randomly did it. New York paled and nodded his head. America silently applauded himself for getting NY away from work, even if it was just for a day. But one question nagged at the American...why did New York pale?
