Another note: this is set in 2012 and starts as the Chitauri invade New York. I've kind of pulled a Barry Allen with the timeline, but hey, it's fanfiction! Ok, let's get into it!

Oh yeah, I write in first person xo.

I jump out from behind the wrecked car, snapping off two quick shots, then ducking back to reload. All around me, sirens wail, Chitauri vehicles hum and whir, and buildings and cars crash down.

"I need backup," I mutter into my com, clicking the magazine back into place and getting ready to fire again.

"Where are you?" Romanoff responds, her voice crackling over the explosions around us.

"Two blocks from Stark tower, there's an Italian place on the corner."

"Be there in a minute."

I aim my gun up, squeezing off another shot and watching as a Chitauri falls from its flying scooter thing, landing with a thump next to me. I don't bother with it, I'm too busy taking down more of the Aliens as they whiz around the corner. But there are a lot of them, and I'm only one person.

A rapid succession of gunshots sound behind me and I turn to see Romanoff steadily mowing down the enemy, her face a picture of perfect concentration. She nods to me, and I turn back to the invading forces, shoving another magazine into my gun.

Honestly I have no idea why the streets and skies of New York are overrun with Chitauri Aliens, and I have no idea why there's a huge wormhole over Stark Tower, but, as a SHIELD agent, I'm used to weird stuff happening. I just grab a gun and blast the bad guys.

"Williams, I can handle it here," Romanoff shouts, "go help Clint get the civilians!"

Popping of one last bullet, I do as she says and sprint away to where the most damage is, where the most casualties will be.

"We got it's attention," Tony Stark's voice crackles, "what the hell was step two?"

I look up to see a giant worm creature turning in mid-air, perusing what I assume is Stark.

I skid around a corner, almost crashing into an alien warrior. I jump, kicking it in the back and quickly dispatching it with a shot. Overhead, lightning rains down around me, causing more Chitauri to fall.

Thor lands in a crouch, looking around as he pulls himself to his feet. Barton and Rogers come up behind me.

"What's the story upstairs?" Barton asks, checking the sharpness of an arrow he picked up off the ground.

"The power surrounding the cube is impenetrable," the blonde guy says, swinging his hammer idly.

"Thor's right," I say, "we should deal with these guys."

"I have unfinished business with Loki," the God turns to me, and I realise that this is the first time I've even seen him up close. He looks familiar, and he starts a little when he meets my eyes. I frown.

"Get in line," Barton growls, shoving the arrow into his quiver.

"Save it," Rogers pushes past us, making for the next street over, "Loki's gonna keep this fight focussed on us and that's what we need. Without him these things could run wild. We'll get Stark up top, he's gonna need us to..."

He breaks off, turning at the sound of a motorbike. The rest of us follow his gaze, taking in the small beat up vehicle winding through the wreckage, a very average middle aged man driving it. He dismounts, and we walk to meet him.

"So," he looks around, "this all seems horrible."

"I've seen worse," Romanoff says, appearing from behind another building. He looks at his feet.
