"We're going to Jotunheim," Thor stands up, and I sigh in exasperation. He's so predictable, so easy to nudge into rash decisions. Oh well, all the better for us.

"This isn't a journey to Earth," Fandral says, "where you summon a little lightning and thunder then the mortals worship you as a god, this is Jotunheim."

"My father fought his way to Jotunheim," Thor says, and I groan quietly. Beside me, Loki rubs his face with a hand and shakes his head. "he defeated their armies and took their casket," Thor continues, "we would just be looking for answers."

"It is forbidden!" Sif protests, and the future king laughs.

"My friends," He addresses them, "have you forgotten all that we have done together? Fandral, Hogan," he gestures to the two of them, "who lead you into the most glorious battles?"

"You," Hogan says.

"And Volstagg," Thor goes on, "to delicacies so succulent you thought you'd died and gone to Valhalla?"

"You did," the massive man laughs.

"Yes! And who proved wrong all that scoffed at the idea that a young maiden could be one of the fiercest warriors this realm has ever know?"

"I did," Sif points out.

"True," Thor relents, "but I supported you. My friends," he turns to face all three of them, "we're going to Jotunheim."

I must admit, it feels pretty badass riding horses across the Bifrost. I look across at Loki, flashing him a grin. He smiles back, stopping his horse as the others do. We dismount, and I stand back behind the others as Loki stops Thor approaching Heimdall.

"Leave this to me," he tells his brother, then to Heimdall, "good Heimdall..."

"You're not dressed warmly enough," the watchman says.

"Excuse me?"

"Do you think that you can deceive me?"

"You must be mistaken..." Loki laughs.

"Enough!"

Loki falls silent and Thor pushes to the front.

"Heimdall," he says, "may we pass?"

"Never," he says, "has an enemy slipped my watch until this day. I wish to know how that happened."

"Then tell no-one where we have gone until we have returned," Thor tells him, "understand?"

Heimdall doesn't do anything, but doesn't stop them as the others follow Thor past the watcher. Only Loki hesitates, and I step up beside him.

"What happened?" Volstagg asks as he passes us, "silver tongue turned to lead?"

"Watch it," I mutter, but don't do anything else.

"Heimdall," Loki says softly once the others are out of earshot, "go to Odin, tell him where we've gone."

Heimdall doesn't say anything, just gives Loki and I a searching look before nodding slowly. Quickly, we make our way to the end of the Bifrost where the others are waiting, taking up our places beside them.

Energy crackles around us as Heimdall slides the massive sword into the Bifrost's heart, the huge golden dome whirring as it spins.

"Be warned," he says, "I will honour my sworn oath to protect this realm as its gatekeeper. If your return threatens the safety of Asgard, Bifrost will remain closed, and you'll be left to die in the cold wastes of Jotunheim."
