Abruptly, the room was clear of water. She was on her bed again and she could finally breathe. She gasped for the air; worshipped it. She was so happy. Meghan heard the front door open and she ran to go greet her mother.
"Hey, mom, welcome home did you get stuff for pizza? I can put it in the oven if you give it to me." Meghan exclaimed, bouncing for joy.
"Meghan! Where are you, honey? I got some stuff for pizza! Could you put the next Twilight movie in while I heat it up?" her mom called through the house.
"I'm right here, mom! See?!" Meghan answered, waving her arms in front of her mom's face.
Her mom started down the hall to Meghan's room.
"No, you don't want to go in there, mom!" Meghan said, trying to push her mom back to the door. But her hands went right through her. "What?!" she gasped as her mother walked through Meghan. She followed helplessly behind her mom when she froze in the doorway. There was stuff everywhere and she was lying on her bed. But she was standing there. "Oh no, oh no! No, no!" Meghan cried as she realized what had happened. She actually was dead. And her mom was trying to wake her from a never ending sleep.
"Hey, honey. I'm home. I brought things for pizza. Want to pop in the next Twilight movie while I make the pizzas? Honey? Meghan?" her mom said, shaking the disembodied Meghan. "Meghan! Wake up!" She looked by Meghan and noticed the notes. She gasped, picking them up and reading them. She couldn't believe how her daughter could be so full of hatred. Cold tears began to flow, the tears turned into sobs, those sobs turned into gasping for air.
"No, mom, no. I'm right here. I'm right beside you. It's okay, I'm so sorry." Meghan pleaded, sitting beside her mom trying to comfort her. But her arms went through her and Meghan wanted so badly to be able to comfort her; to feel her warm hugs and to know that everything was okay. But it wasn't okay; everything wasn't going to be alright. She wanted all of it; to sit on their raggedy, old couch. She wanted to take it all back. She wanted to tell her mom everything; to feel better and still be alive. But she couldn't have it anymore. She was alone.
"Meghan, sweetie. Please, wake up. Please....I love you. I promise I'll give you a better life. I'll help you through this. We'll move to a different state. I'll home-school you if you want me to. Just please, please wake up." Her mom whispered between sobs. "I'm so sorry. I should have noticed how sad you were and when you would come home so early from school. I'm so sorry. I love you. Please come back to me. Please." She felt Meghan's cool face and kissed her forehead.
"Mom, no. Please, don't cry. Mom...." Meghan pled, in tears.
"Meghan honey, please hold on. I need you to stay with me. I'm going to go call the ambulance, sweetie. It's going to be okay. Mommy's going to save you." Her mom whispered; wiping the tears from her eyes and cheeks. "You'll be okay." She ran through the house with Meghan on her heels. She finally reached her purse, pulled out her phone, and dialed 911.
"Please, you need to get here as soon as possible! My daughter tried to commit suicide! Hurry, if you get here soon enough, I think she can make it!" she explained.
Meghan sat on her usual place on the couch while her mom finished telling the operator where their house was. But then it hit her as she looked out the windows. It just started snowing when she got home, now it was a blizzard. The snow was piling up, making it difficult to see more than a few feet ahead. The ambulance barn was on the other side of town and there was a 40% off deal at the local shops. That meant there would be very dangerous roads and a lot of traffic, resulting in a long delay for the ambulance. Meghan prayed that the ambulance would come soon and take her to the hospital so she could wake up again. She wanted to escape this empty place.
