Meghan stared in horror at Jane lying on the floor. Her eyes went up to the murderer with the sick smile on her sneering face. The most horrifying thing was the murderer standing over Jane was her own mom. Meghan struggled to her feet after the pain of the impersonating (Meghan liked to call it impersonating; possessing felt wrong) subsided. Jane's blood started to pool on the floor. Meghan kneeled next to her head and checked to see if her wounds were fixable at all. But they were too severe. There was a huge gash on her forehead and the top of her head. Her ribs were broken and her left femur was broken; the bone almost breaking the skin. Meghan slowly got up to examine the murder weapon.
Jane's mom was still clutching the rolling pin in her right hand. The weapon was soaked in blood, along with her arm. There was some blood sprinkles on her face and clothes. Her face was menacing, challenging. She was horrifying. Meghan heard a sound in the hall. A petit woman, who looked to be about 25 or so, walked into the room. She was holding a duster and was wearing a short-fitting black dress with lace in the front' the usual-looking maid's outfit. She walked in briskly, but stopped dead in her tracks when she saw the mess in the room.
"Clean up this mess! I'm going to go take a nap!" She bellowed as she threw the rolling pin down and stalked out of the room, smiling in contentment at what she had accomplished.
"And, don't call the police or you will be the next on the floor! Just bag her and throw her!" she added over her shoulder.
The maid timidly walked with shaky knees to the pile of Jane on the floor. She poked her with the rolling pin and scuttled out the room. She soon was back with a garbage bag.
"No!" Meghan wailed as she shoved Jane in the bag, cleaned up the blood, and disposed of the evidence. She hurried out of the room with Meghan on her heels. She stared, horrified as she threw some garbage in the bag, in attempt to mask Jane. She quickly enclosed it and ran outside, again with Meghan right behind her. They got in the maid's car (an old, broken down sloppy jalopy) and they drove away down the road. Meghan took her spot in the front seat. She looked behind her and saw the bag with Jane shoved in it and threw a hateful glance back at the house that seemed more like a dungeon than a castle.
They zoomed by the church and she noticed Jonathon's parents' car in the parking lot. Meghan didn't want to see the fate of Jane so she decided to get out and see what was happening; it was only Friday and she knew church wasn't in session. As she walked over to the building, still stunned, she realized what was happening. She had spent the night at Jane's house and it was actually Saturday. And Jonathon's funeral. She went through the walls and saw the open casket. His cold, blank face looked so.....lifeless.
As she collapsed on the floor, she heard a strange voice. She looked up to see Jonathon standing in front of her.
"J-J-Jonathon???" Meghan stuttered.
Taking Meghan's hand and helping her up, he said "It's okay. I'm fine. Actually, I'm kinda confused as to what I'm doing here. But....fine...." he tried to reassure her.
She was very confused too. "B-B-But how c-c-can you hear m-m-me? And how are my h-h-hands not going t-t-through you?"
Jonathon shook his head. Reaching up to Meghan's forehead, he smoothed out the wrinkles of her stressed face. "It's ok. See?" he motioned toward the ceremony. "This is my funeral. I thought you'd be here."
"Oh....." Meghan didn't know what to say. She was so confused; she didn't know what to do next. "So, where's Jane? She just...." Her voice trailed off.
"She didn't meet the same fate as us....she was murdered." he explained timidly.
"Then why are we still here? Why are we in the world, but at the same time, not?"
"Because we have some unfinished business. Like, for instance, I had to make sure you were okay. Check." He motioned a check-mark with his finger. "And you needed to make sure everything was going okay with everyone in the real-world. That was a terrible fail."
"Wait, wait! How do you know my 'unfinished business'?"
"Because you're Meghan! Your thoughts and emotions might as well be written on your forehead!"
"Wait, so if your unfinished business, then what do you do now?"
"Oh, I forgot about that! Ummm...we should probably run!"
Meghan looked behind her and saw two strange-looking figures standing the doorway of the church. They were...glowing?! They wore golden-shimmering cloaks and their eyes glowed with a magnificent light. The was a strong, tall one with jet-black hair on the right and on the left was a shorter, skinnier one with golden hair.
Meghan was astounded by their beauty, but she knew instantly that they were here for Jonathon. Jonathon grabbed her arm, and pulled her through the church wall. They ran through all the trees of the surrounding forest.
"We need to get as far away from my corpse as possible! That way, it'll take longer for them to take me back!" he yelled as he zoomed through the trees.
"Well, isn't there any form of transportation we can use? Like a car, or something?" Meghan suggested.
"Our bodies would just go through it. There's no time!"
They just kept on running and running, not having to stop for a break or catch their breath (they were dead anyway). Meghan sometimes snuck a glance behind her to see the figures moving very quickly towards them, just hovering over the ground, like it took no attempt at all. They were on their tails soon enough. In a very short amount of time, they were there.
They caught up with them. The strong one held Jonathon down with an arm lock. Meghan winced when she heard a loud snap come from Jonathon's arm when the figure pulled him down, restraining.
"No!!" Meghan screamed as the short one stood in front of Jonathon. She didn't know what they were going to do, but she knew she was going to be alone very soon.
Jonathon pulled away one of his hands and held it out to Meghan. "It's ok....I'm ok.....Meghan, you have to listen to me! You need to fulfil your unfinished business. You need to come with me. Find a way to make everything in real-world better. Please, Meghan, I need you to listen-" his voice cut off when the figure held him down more firmly. He was contorted in a way that his eyes were glazed-over with pain and his mouth was open, trying to finish his sentence.
The strong figure held Jonathon more firmly while the short one hovered slowly over to the front of him. Meghan tried to run in front of them, but the strong one held out his hand and a golden chain restrained her to a tree. She struggled and struggled with no use as she was forced to watch. She couldn't do anything to save Jonathon.
The short one continued and held out his forefinger to Jonathon, hovering over his forehead. It started to glow and shimmer with the most brilliant of golden colors. He placed it carefully on Jonathon's forehead, making his entire body shimmer with the same brilliant gold as the other two figures.
The strong one let go of him and pushed him to the ground. The two figures disappeared, as well as the golden chains Meghan was restrained in. Meghan ran to Jonathon's side and tried to pick him up. Her hands went through him.
He started to scream and claw the ground. He was being dragged to the church!
"Meghan!! Meghan, help me!!! Meghan!!!! Grab my hands! Please, Meghan! I'll try to grab your hands!!! Help me!!!! MEGHAN!!!" he wailed as he was dragged further.
"I'm here!! My hands went through you! I can't grab your hands!"
"Try! Please!!!! MEGHAN!!!!!"
She tried to grab his hands and he tried to hold on. To her surprise, her hands stayed firm. She pulled and tugged on his arms as best as she could, but she was only being dragged with him. He started to be pulled even faster. Meghan could see the church from here. Meghan tried and tried to pull Jonathon free of this invisible force, but it was to no use. They were already in the church and being pulled towards Jonathon's body in the casket.
"Meghan!!! Save me Meghan!!!" Jonathon screamed as they were pulled onto the stage.
"MEGHAN!!!!" was his last word as his body was pulled into his corpse and Meghan was once again alone.
