Gammy: it was really nice seeing you Jace and thank you for all that you do for my little one it means a lot.
Jace: it’s my pleasure. She really is a bundle of joy I must say.
Alex: Willan [laughs]
Gammy: [looks at Alex and smiles] she really is.
Jace: I have to take my leave now.
Gammy: okay drive safe
Jace: please can I call you gammy too?
Gammy: sure, son.
Alex walks him out.
Alex: thanks for everything.
Jace: it's okay, you two really love to say thank you a lot you know [laughs].
Alex: [laughs] well to be honest I have never had such good friends before like Mia, Tom, Will and you. The one friend I had died of a brain cancer because of lack of money so the only friends I have ever had was my mom and dad well of course my gammy........
Jace: wait, the Tamika girl you talked about?
Alex: yes.
Jace: that's really sad, I'm sorry.
Alex: it's okay. Jessie and her friends are not the first to treat me like that it’s not new at all [nearly cries]. Anyway see you tomorrow.
Jace pulls her back, wipes her tears and hugs her tightly while she cries on his shoulder
Jace: let it all out.
Alex cries out. Then afterwards, she stops.
Alex: oh my God I’m so sorry [laughs].
Jace: it’s okay. [Wipes her tears] see you tomorrow then?
Alex: yeah bye.
Jace: hey!
Alex turns to face him.
Jace: what’s my name?
Alex: [smiles] Willan.
Jace: good, you know you look pretty when you smile [smiles]
Alex: [laughs] I need to fire you, you have no respect for your boss.
Jace: and my politician is back [laughs].
Alex: goodnight Willan thanks for your help.
Jace: goodnight ma’am [bows while laughing]
[Jace drives out].
The next morning Gammy goes to Alex’s room....
Gammy: it is a beautiful Friday, no class for you this notice came in the mail.
Alex: [reads the letter from her school and jumps in excitement] no class on Fridays whooooo!!!
Gammy: come down young lady I didn’t come to your room for that.
Alex: [sits] yes.
Gammy: happy birthday to you.
She sings her the happy birthday song.
Alex: thank you gammy [hugs her] you know I actually forgot.....
Gammy: you always forget dear
Alex: and you always remind me [her eyes get watery]
Gammy: [hugs her] oh, my little one. I baked you a cake........
Alex: gammy why you know we don’t have enough…....
Gammy: no, no, no….... This is a great day for my jovial little one. We'll always have enough to celebrate and I invited a few extras.
There’s a knock at the door.
Gammy: right on time. [She's about to leave to answer the door]
Alex: I’ll get it. [She opens it] Mia!
Mia: [while holding a present rapped in sky blue and a smile] happy birthday!
Alex: [with tears of joy hugs her] aww thank you so much, come in my gammy baked today..
Gammy: my other little one
Mia: gammy! [She hugs her]
Gammy: you are welcome dear.
Mia: I just love coming here gammy
Gammy: I know.
She brings in the cake. The three celebrate.
Mia: I also told Jace this morning when I met him in town. Apparently, someone [looking directly at Alex] didn't tell him......
Alex: I didn't want to bother him he's already done so much.
Mia: you should have seen how really concerned he got when I told him. He likes you a lot
Alex: no, he's just really kind.
Mia: [murmurs] hmmm.... I know you like him too. I see how you look at him
Alex: .............
Later in the day, Jace and his brothers join the celebration.
Tom: so Lex how old?
Alex: only 20 now.
Will: I must say I’m happy to have arrived back for this day.
Alex: you know I would totally replace you if you missed it [laughs]
Gammy: okay people blowing of candles.
They all sang a happy birthday song for her and cheered happily. While Alex shed some tears.
Mia: okay speech time people!
Will: yeah, I’ll start…… Alex, you are crazy, fun, funny, so beautiful, smart [bumps her on shoulder and she smiles] you are a blessing to who ever gets close to you, always at heart happy birthday and then gives her a jamper printed “HBDAY MONTEZ ps. WILL”
Alex: aww....... [Hugs him] thanks Will.
Tom: my turn…. Lexy lex lex oh, Alex [they all laugh] I really wish you were my twin no lie, like I enjoy spending time with you…… really come here [he hugs and pecks her on the cheek] happy birthday, here you go lexy.
He gave her some converse shoes.
Alex: no way tommy I have always wanted these shoes, how did you know?
Tom: I have my ways [he looks at Mia]
Mia: okay, Jace?
Jace: still putting words together you talk.
Mia: well, in my whole life I have never met a best friend like you, in fact I’ve never had one you are my first true friend, my sister, cousin, mother, adviser, aunty, twin, father [all laugh] uncle…. Alex you are my everything I’ll always love you and I thank God for you. [Alex hugs her]
Gammy: how sweet….okay my little one I wish you all the best in this life. I pray that all you ever experience is happiness and joy because that is what you have always given me. Every single day you always make me proud, more proud, even more proud each day. I know your parents would be proud of you because I am. Happy birthday my little one. [Alex hugs her]
Jace: okay, Montez I believe all has been said so I’ll summarise [all laugh].
Jace: my politician, you always complain, argue and bring smiles to everyone’s face, to my face. If I had a bad day my mind is even programmed to just look for you and I’m sure of a smile. You have a smile that melts the hearts of friends and family. You are a bundle of joy, happy birthday. I came with my guitar, so I'll play something.
All: awwww
Then he played her a song on his guitar and sang happy birthday.
Alex: [hugged him too and then cried] wow guys, gammy thank you sooo so much for all the words and gifts, I'm humbled. You all are a blessing to me.
The rest of the afternoon went on well. In the evening when they all dispersed, Jace took her out for the night....
Jace: close your eyes
Alex: Jace what’s…......
Jace: close Montez. Even just closing eyes is a debate
Alex: okay, okay [laughs].
She closes while he takes her to a quiet and beautiful garden with lights around it. It has a happy birthday sign and a lonely dinner table right below it.
Jace: open [she opens]
Alex: oh my, Jace w.......h...... but you have done so much already.
Jace: I believe you deserve better Montez, and why do you keep calling me Jace?
Alex: Willan, your majesty she bows.....
Jace: really [laughs], okay now this is a trap my politician bowing to her driver [laughs]
Alex: [laughs].Thank you Willan for all you do, really.
Jace: that reminds me, I didn’t give you your gift.......
Alex: I thought all this is my gift.
Jace: yeah, but I have to give you something long lasting. That when you look at it, you think of me.
He puts a bracelet written ‘Wiltez Jax’ in small italics letters.
Alex: what's wiltez jax?
Jace: just one of the languages.
They spend the rest of the night having fun. They ate, laughed and looked into each others eyes a couple of times. Towards the end, they got closer and almost kissed.
Alex: [quickly stands up] we have to go [and starts walking]
Jace: o.....okay.
