Chapter fourteen

Authors POV:
Jungkook woke blinking slowly. He stared at the remains and ash from last nights fire, realizing that he must have fallen asleep there last night. He looked around noticing that Taehyung wasn't there. As he went to stand, cracking his stiff joints after sleeping in an uncomfortable position all night, Taehyung walked back into the room

"Good, you're awake. Get ready, we need to leave soon." Taehyung stated. His cute, flirty behavior from the night before was nowhere to be seen, instead replaced with a serious tone.

A bit taken aback by the drastic change in attitude Jungkook simply nodded, after all he had promised that they'd leave first thing in the morning.

He quickly got ready not wanting to make Taehyung wait any longer. He knew that if they stayed here any longer Taehyung would become paranoid and start thinking up the worst possible scenarios.

He walked outside to where Taehyung was waiting for him, both horses already saddled and ready to go. They both mounted the horses in silence, neither of them really having a plan of action.

"Our best plan is to head back west" Taehyung said breaking the silence the two were stuck in, the serious tone never leaving his voice.

Jungkook nodded in agreement. It was the only logical plan. "You know, I don't think I like serious Taehyung. He's too demanding." He said trying to lighten the mood.

It worked. A small smirk worked it's way onto Taehyung's face. "Ya he doesn't come out too often. I thought you'd like me being demanding." He said with a slight wiggle of his eyebrows.

Jungkook rolled his eyes, not even bothering to respond. This only caused Taehyung to laugh.

They rode in for hours in mostly silence, cracking jokes every once and a while to make the other laugh and keep the mood light between them. But as time went on the jokes became less frequent. They were both beginning to lose hope. Did they really think they'd find the others straight away? They weren't sure. They at least though there would be some signs of life after traveling for so long.

It was quiet, too quiet. The silence was defining. The growling of walkers somewhere in the distance wasn't even loud enough for them to hear. It was getting dark and they were losing hope. They couldn't go back to the farm house now, it was too dark and the journey back was too far. They would have to find shelter somewhere else for the night, a place where they could keep the horses safe.

"It's too quiet" Jungkook pointed out "why aren't there any walkers?"he questioned, genuinely confused. He'd never gone a whole day without seeing at least one walker.

"Probably cause there all dead" Taehyung stated in a dull voice, his exhaustion evident, as he pointed to a pile of corpses lying in the road.

Upon seeing this Jungkook's mood instantly perked up. "That's a good sign."

"How?" Taehyung was clearly too tired to put two and two together, not a good thing when there is the possibility of death around every corner.

Jungkook shook his head for what seemed like the millionth time that day. " That means someone has been here. Recently too by the looks of it." 

After having it spelled out clearly for him, Taehyung began to look hopeful. The prospect of finding his friends soon caused a smile to spread across his face. It was too dark to continue looking for tonight though.  Knowing that if his group were around, they would be talking shelter till morning, Taehyung was ok with calling it a night. They found a safe space to keep the horses for the night before going into the nearby convenience store. They killed the only two walkers that were inside before making sure they would be safe for there for the night. Once they were sure they would be safe, they decided to search the store for food. Taehyung's flirty attitude returning once again.

They both settled down on the floor setting out the blankets and sleeping bags they had brought with them. Jungkook had found a single chocolate bar after scouring the whole shop. His excitement was clear to see. He couldn't remember the last time he had chocolate. He took a bite and sighed in content.

"This tastes amazing" he said with a smile before taking another bite.

"Can I taste?" Taehyung asked with a mischievous smirk on his face, which went unnoticed by Jungkook who was too busy enjoying his chocolate.

"Sure" he said through a mouthful of chocolate, but as he was handing him the chocolate, Taehyung leaned in a pecked Jungkook's lips.

"You're right it is good" Taehyung said a smile on his face.

Jungkook's face burned bright red "Y-you could have j-just taken a piece" he stuttered. His heart racing.

Taehyung's smirk grew upon seeing Jungkook's reaction "Nah, it tastes better this way".

Mustering up all his courage and bravery Jungkook stuttered "w-well do you... want some more?"

Taehyung was slightly taken aback by his response. He would be lying if he said he didn't want to kiss Jungkook again. He honestly wasn't sure if Jungkook would have been ok with kissing him, afraid that he had been miss reading the signs but decided it was worth a try because he was sick of the constant flirting that went nowhere.

Taehyung slowly leaned in again connecting their lips one again. They both closed their eyes enjoying the slow, passionate and slightly awkward kiss. Eventually they broke apart and rested their foreheads together giggling softly.

"That was long overdue" Taehyung giggled, earning a nod in response from Jungkook.

Taehyung placed another quick peck on Jungkook's lips before laying down in his sleeping bag. Jungkook followed his lead climbing into his own sleeping bag before shyly curling up in Taehyung, who wrapped both arms around him. They both drifted off to sleep warm in each others embrace.
