"Hey, Buckingham! Are you even listening to what we're saying?" Jimmy elbowed him.
"No way, man! He's all about his new girlfriend right now." Tom laughed along with others.
Lindsey had had enough. Ever since that party a week ago, everyone was teasing him. Yes, he met a girl there. He was playing a song and a gorgeous brown eyed, dirty blonde haired girl joined in to sing with him. He was mesmerized by her voice and beauty, he couldn't stop thinking about her. All Lindsey knew was that her name was Stephanie, but people called her Stevie and they both went to the same high school.
"Earth to Lindsey!" He heared everyone laugh again. He didn't care what his supposed friends were saying, Lindsey got up and left.
He wanted to be away from people, he wanted to think or to recall that evening. Lindsey lay down on the grass and closed his eyes.
By the time they finished their song, they had gathered up quite an audience. He put his guitar away and clapped as she took a bow. The crowd wasn’t bothered anymore and they all went their own ways.
“I’m Lindsey. Buckingham to be specific.” He extended his arm and she shook it.
“Stevie. Nicks.” She smiled. “Actually, Stephanie, but I had so much trouble with pronouncing it when I was little, so I just go with Stevie. To be specifically specific I’m Stephanie Lynn Nicks. Hi.”
He laughed. “You’re weird, but in a good way. Well then, I’m Lindsey Adams Buckingham.”
“Nice to meet you.”
“Likewise. You have a really fantastic voice!”
She took a seat next to Lindsey. “Thanks, I try. I think we didn’t do badly on those harmonies.”
“Not at all.” He agreed. “How come I didn’t notice you before? Such beauty around and where have I been?”
She smiled shyly. “I’ve just got transferred here.”
“That explains it then. What year are you in?”
“I’m a senior.”
“Junior.” He raised his hand.
“You’re a baby.”
“I don't know about me, but, well, you certainly are.” He was smirking, he was so totally smirking.
“Flatterer. Are you in a band?”
“Why, you wanna join?”
“Gee, I’m just asking.” She rolled her eyes.
“Yeah, we’re called Fritz.”
“Fritz?” She raised her eyebrow.
“Yes, it’s some poor guy’s name we felt like taking.” She laughed and he seemingly enjoyed the sound of that. “So, are you in some hot chick band then?”
She shook her head. “I sing and I write on my own.”
“A songwriter? Nice! Do you play any instrument?”
“I took a month long guitar classes, so I could have a melody, a rhythm going to help me write songs.”
“You’re getting cooler with each second.”
“Thanks.”
“It's really nice meeting you. I hope to see you around/”
She stood up and smoothened out her skirt. “Me too.”
“Yeah, take care, Stephanie Lynn Nicks!" Lindsey smiled at her and she did the same back at him. He actually remembered her full name.
He was brought back to reality by a friend announcing it was time to go to one of their classes. "I'll catch up with you." Lindsey said and didn't move as his classmate went away. He wanted nothing more but to talk to her or at least see her.
Lindsey finally got up, realizing he was already late and he started running. He was near the entrance as he ran into someone and saw a stack of books fall down on the ground. "I'm so sorry! I'm late and I wasn't paying attention. Let me help you.” He kneeled down and picked up the books, then looked at the person in front of him as he was handing them back, but they were about to slip again. “Oh my god, it’s you! Stephanie!”
“Lindsey…?” She wasn't sure.
"It's me, yeah." He laughed, shaking his curls. “Please, forgive me I caused you to drop your books.”
"It's fine, don't worry." She dismissed with her hand. "Be more carefull next time, it might be you falling on the cement." He just stood in front of her, staring. "Something's wrong? Do I have a zit on my nose or...?"
"No, you're beautiful."
"Am not." She playfully pushed at his chest.
"Hey, um... Would you like to come play with me and the guys? I was so taken by your voice. I wanted to ask you then, but... I'm kinda shy. Talking to girls is not my thing."
"Really?" She couldn't resist pinching his cheek. "I think you're cute."
"No, you don't."
"Yes, I do."
"Why would you?"
"Gee, just take it, will you?" She rolled her eyes. “Where do I come? And when?”
He wrote down the address and gave the piece of paper to her. "It would be cool to see you around 7 tonight."
"Right, I'll try my best to be there."
"Awesome! I'm looking forward to playing with you.” She raised her eyebrow. “Well, not like that!”
"Just messing with ya." She winked and continued to where she was going before they bumped into each other.
If Lindsey had ever said love at first sight was stupid, well, then it made him stupid as well.
