She opened her eyes slightly and blinked rapidly because of the sunlight in the room. She felt so tired, she had no idea what had been going on, she might as well had slept through a week for all she knew. She took in her surroundings slowly. There were flowers and balloons and cards of congratulations. She frowned then it hit her – she became a mother for the second time! Yes, that’s right! It didn’t take more than ten minutes before Lindsey came in to the hospital room with a blue bundle in his arms. She wanted to cry. He smiled at her and she smiled back at him extending her arms.
“Here you go, angel.”
Stevie cradled their son in her arms and couldn’t help but start weeping. They’re right saying there’s no love like the one for your children, she thought. This was the first time she was seeing her baby and she was already head over heels in love with him. He was so beautiful and innocent to her.
“I hope you were still set on Aaron?” Lindsey laughed lightly. “Because I already told the nurse.”
“Yes, yes absolutely.” She traced his cheek with the back of her finger. “He’s so soft… Lindsey, we made him! You and I…”
“I know, Steves, I know. We did a pretty damn good job, I’d say.”
“The best we could do, Linds. He's perfect.”
“Just like you, angel.” He kissed her cheek then planted a kiss on their son’s forehead. "Although, I think we should keep ourselves from talking like dad around Amber, she's a pouting little girl today."
"Oh, my poor baby. We need to have a serious talk with her, I'm not sure she'll understand things won't change and we love her the same, but we have to try."
"We will, sweetheart, we will. Don't you worry about that now."
Stevie spoke to Lindsey, but couldn't tear her eyes away from Aaron. “Thank you.”
“Thank you, Stevie.” They entwined their fingers together. "All I really did was be there for you when you felt like making love."
She smiled and shook her head. "You're not being fair to yourself, Linds. You were there every step of the way, you stayed up with me late, you rubbed my back, you told me the sweetest things, you brought me food!"
"You're welcome." He laughed and gave her a kiss.
She looked around again. “Has someone else been here?”
“Oh, um… everyone actually. Both sides of the family.”
“Where are they now?”
“Your parents are still outside, my side left after meeting the baby. They had to rush and...”
"Lindsey, it's fine. I know they didn't leave before I woke up because they didn't want to see me." She soothed, squeezing his arm gently.
"No, of course not."
“Will you ask my parents to come in here then?”
“As you wish, Steves.” He got up and soon came back with Barbara, Jess and Amber.
After making sure Stevie and baby Aaron were fine, her parents left as well, leaving the beautiful little family on their own. As good as it was having all others around, she was happy it was just them again.
She fed the baby for the first time and after kept looking down at their son, him falling asleep in her arms, nothing could outdo this. The nurse took Aaron away and put him in the crib nearby, saying Stevie should rest.
“You’ll be allowed to leave the hospital tomorrow afternoon, Miss.” The nurse said smiling. “Will you have someone to take you home?”
“Well, yes. He’s gonna.” She pointed at Lindsey and the nurse nodded.
Lindsey waited just long enough until she left again. “Hey, Steves?”
“Mm?”
“When can we have sex again?” She rolled her eyes and he laughed. “Just kidding!”
“Sure you are. I’ve heard it’s about six weeks after giving birth.”
“Oh… that long?”
“Don’t worry, I have other ways to… satisfy you.”
“Your words, don’t go back on your promises, babe.”
“Lindsey Buckingham, I have made you a father for the second time, grow up for god’s sakes!”
He laughed, holding her hand in his. “I will. After we have like five more kids.”
She looked at him in horror. “I think you may have to direct all your love to the two we have now.”
“Was it horrible?” He suddenly asked.
“What, giving birth?” Lindsey nodded. “To be honest, not that bad. With Amber it was worse.”
“Five more it is then!”
She hit his arm playfully and sighed happily. “I love you.”
“Love you too, angel. Get some sleep now.”
“When are you coming tomorrow?”
“I ain’t leaving, baby.” He smiled and she fell for him again.
