Stevie found herself spending more and more time over at Lindsey's place. They had known each other for only two months, but the fact there was something between them that might eventually become more than a friendship was obvious to everyone around them. The rest of the guys from Fritz weren't that happy about it, maybe they were jealous or maybe just annoyed, but either way, the little hearts that appeared in Lindsey's eyes, every time Stevie would join them, weren't appreciated.
Like every evening, Stevie was expected at practice at 6. She was running late, because she was told by her mother to finish homework before setting her foot out on the front porch. She practically ran to Lindsey's parents' house and almost fell over at least five times on her way. She was out of breath once she reached her destination. An apologetic look took place on her face as she found Lindsey all by himself.
"I'm sorry." She said, taking a few steps forward to hug him, not sure if he wanted that anyway.
"Don't worry, Steves." He smiled at her. "They didn't give you five minutes before deciding to leave..."
"I'm getting tired of their crap to be honest. They don't like me, I know, but we're not here to like each other, we're all together because of music. At least it's what I thought."
"They can be assholes." He agreed, putting his hand around her and leading them to the scruffy old couch in the garage. "Can I get you anything?"
"No, thanks." She shook her head, feeling a little emotional.
Lindsey didn't need her to say anything to know how she was feeling, he put his arm around her and she leaned into him. "Don't beat yourself up about this, it's nothing. Those guys are assholes, I told you."
"You're so nice to me, Linds."
"Yeah, well..."
"Why are you so nice to me?" Stevie sat up straight.
He was caught off guard. "I, um... Gee, I wish I could tell you." He half smiled.
"But you can." She took his hand in hers, her smile melting his heart.
"You're gonna think I'm just like the rest."
"Why would I?"
"You want the truth?"
"No, I'm begging you to lie to me, Lindsey."
"Easy on that sarcasm, Nicks."
"Then stop being all silly about this?"
"I know we've met not that long ago, but... I’ve never felt this connection with anyone before and… I told you, I was thinking about you the whole time after we only talked for ten minutes the first time we met, so imagine what I must be feeling seeing you everyday?” He smiled. “I was in a band, having a great time with the guys, but this beautiful girl came in and I lost it.” He said shyly. “I see you and I know you have that same fire in you I have about what we're doing with our music and it’s like…” He sighed, struggling for words. “Because I have you with me, I know we’ll pull through somehow, with or without the band. At first I think, I fell in love with your talent. Then I started to realize just how stunning you are and how great of a time I have with you. I always see guys wanting to be in your company wherever we play or simply hang out and I know they’re so much better than me, they can give you things. And me… I’m nothing, I have nothing. All I can offer you is my love and devotion. Yet, I think it’s not enough, it will never be, so I didn’t make any move. I enjoyed your affection in any and every way you’ve shown me. But I feel completely worthless, certainly not worthy of someone like you, Steph.”
His words were the most beautiful thing anyone had ever told her. She wanted to hold him. So she did, then backed off and looked at him. “But, Linds… your love and devotion is all I need.” He grinned and cradled her face in his hands and leaned to kiss her. Oh god, am I getting dizzy, she thought. "Say it. Tell me what is it that you feel for me."
"I love you, Steves. This is so sudden, I get it, but I can't fight my heart." She moved to sit in his lap, pressing feather like kisses to his lips. "Let's leave the band."
"Let's do what?" She shrieked.
"I can't see our future together with Bob, Brian and Javier. Our vision differs from theirs. You and I, we can make it together, just the two of us."
"Do you trully believe that much in us?"
"Don't you?"
"I... I don't even know, Lindsey. This is crazy! I just wanted to play in a band and now I'm in one, and here you are telling me, we should ditch them."
"Stevie, with my guitar skills and your voice and ability to write songs! We can be huge, Fritz is only holding us back, baby."
She moved away from him, deep in thoughts and he'd be lying if he said he wasn't nervous of what might come out of her mouth next. "Ok. Right, let's do this. You and me."
"Buckingham and Nicks?" His smile wide, she would have agreed to anything at that moment.
"Buckingham and Nicks." She nodded eagerly and he swept her off her feet to spin her around as she pressed her lips to his once more.
