When a person is born, they receive a mark on their skin. This mark is called a soulmark. A person's soulmark is a representation of one's soulmate.

For example, let's say that your soulmate is a mechanic, your soulmark might be a wrench or a screwdriver.
There are, however, those that are born without a mark.

Those that do not have a mate, however, can be granted one. This occurrence has never happened at it requires immense power to do so.
Our story is about such an event. An event where 12 markless misfits gain a mark. An idea was formed about a team that would handle what no one else could, earth's mightiest heroes.

The Avengers.

Captain America

Steven Grant Rogers always thought that he would never have a soulmate.

He was born without a soulmark, no one was meant just for him. Being born in the early 20th century, there was an expectation that you meet your soulmate, marry them and have a child or two.

But steve doubted he would ever have that, he didn't have a soulmark and didn't want to marry anyone but his soulmate.

He always liked the idea of having a soulmate, one person to love all his life, that would love him unconditionally despite his sickly stature, he was born small and sickly and weak.

Steve and his friend James would always talk about how neither of them had a soulmark and what would happen in their future, if they would ever marry and have kids or if they would die alone.

Then world war II happened and James left to join the army and Steve was left all alone, until Steve joined the super soldier program and became Captain America, so he could join the war too.

There he became the captain of the howling commandos. A squad of soldiers created specifically to fight hydra, the German science deviation, and the red skull, Johan Schmidt. In 1949 captain America led the howling commandos on a mission to infiltrate a hydra shipment. In the end the commandos are successful but sustained losses that are not easily mended, sergeant James Barnes is declared fallen in combat. After the death of his best friend Steve was so consumed by grief that he went on a crusade to destroy hydra and all it's followers.

Steve with help of the SSR found hydra and the red skull hideout and their secret weapon, a bomber plane loaded with enough explosives to decimate every major city in the world. After the captain defeated the red skull he is unable to land the plane before it reaches New York. Submerged in the ocean the plane freezes and so does Steve.

66 years later he and the plane is discovered by an organization called s.h.i.e.l.d., strategic homeland intervention, enforcement and logistics division, where they thawed him and observed him however finding Steve also meant finding the tesseract, an unimaginable energy source and the secret weapon of hydra. homeland intervention, enforcement and logistics division, where they thawed him and observed him, however finding Steve also meant finding the tesseract, an unimaginable energi source and the secret weapon of hydra. Though in 2011 the tesseract was stolen and Steve called in to retrieve it. Steve joined the avengers to defeat loki and get the tesseract back. as part of The Avengers the captain gained a sense of familiarity. He woke up in a strange and foreign time, knowing no one and overall just being confused but meeting the avengers he knew what to do, he knew to follow orders and how to give orders. somewhere along the way a mark developed on his back.

He hadn't noticed that it appeared he did however notice that his relationship with the rest of the avengers members he used to have regular arguments with suddenly didn't wants to even start a fight. It seemed the longer Steve spend with the team the more prominent the mark became. The mark was a large A inclosed in a circle, inside the circle it's made up of six parts all a different color, around the circle are the insignias of the avengers.

When a new member joined a new insignia would appear on the mark. The more the mark developed the more confused Steve got. He had never heard about an occurrence like this where a mark would just appear over time but with all that had happened in his life after waking up he wasn't surprised that out there that did this as a way to make them weak or vulnerable. But no matter the reason he was just happy to finally have a soul mark.
