RASHIDA HUNG LIKE a monkey from the highest branch on the cherry tree, the pink petals fell from the twigs, landing on the grass below and on the young man on the grass- flicking through the tired pages of a book.

"Still boring yourself wish that magic stuff, Jaffa?" Rashida jumped down from the tree, landing softly at his side.

The hill was their favourite place to go during the afternoon when the sun was starting to go down.

It was cool and most of the light was hindered by the tree's abundant branches.

Jafar rolled his eyes, simply flicking another page, "It's not magic stuff, this is very important incantations and power you just won't..."

"Be able to comprehend," Rashida finished for him, "I know, I know..."

"It's not like you would have the time to learn anything more than your royal duties," Rashida didn't even need to look at him, she could hear the eye-roll in his voice as he spoke.

"I thought we were over this," Rashida growled, "Being royalty doesn't mean anything to me."

"Yes," Jafar closed his book, "And I thought that meant you were going to leave the palace, for good. Escape from this place, go on real adventures...with me as we've always wanted."

Rashida placed her hands on top of his, "We will go on adventures. I promise you but now Baba needs my help more than ever, he is still grieving my mother's death and Jasmine is still a young child."

"Of course," Jafar almost spat, "Family means everything."

"It does," Rashida held his cheek, pushing it back towards her as he tried to turn away, "That's why we will have a family together, one day."

Jafar wanted to believe her words, but even as he nodded to what she was saying, he knew that the rules set in place would never allow him to get where he truly wanted to be with her.

Rashida had been giving the same boring excuse for a couple of months now, it was always the same and it was always going to stay the same unless he did something himself.

"That's exactly why I have decided I need to become Sultan," Jafar told her.

Rashida looked at him for a moment, confused but burst into laughter, "You can't be serious."

"I very much am," Jafar said, "It won't be easy but I will start from the bottom, obviously. First guard, then manservant and if that all pans out, hopefully, get to the Vizier position."

"Listen to me, Jafar," She grabbed his hands, "Do not join me in the palace, I wouldn't want everything you've known about royalty to be destroyed." She grabbed the back of his head, pulling him in close, "I wouldn't want you to be destroyed."

"I promise you, I won't let myself change. Ever," He glanced into her eyes and placed his hands around her neck, pulling her into a quick, gentle kiss, "I know I don't have a lot but is there anything, anything at all that I can give you?"

"Thank you," Rashida gave him another kiss before looking out into the land below the hill, "An elephant."

"What?" Jafar asked, oblivious to Rashida gazing out at the sandy fields below.

"Get me an elephant and make it white," Rashida laughed as she saw his curved eyebrows, "See it as more magic practice."

"Okay," Jafar smiled, "If it's a magical white elephant you want, then it's a magical white elephant you'll get."

But, she didn't care about the magic elephant, she just wanted Jafar. And, if a white elephant was what it took to get him to spend more time with her, so be it.
