THIRTEEN

  Liana did well almost all day. When I stopped by her locker, my face was a bit too close. She blushed and that's when she became awkward around me for the remainder 2 classes. In the hall she avoided eye contact, in class she was mostly quiet. She lost our bet.
  After our last class Liana walked happily towards my car. She hopped into the passenger seat and looked at me smiling. She probably thought she won, only she didn't. I looked at her with a smirk on my face.

"Why are you smiling Ana?"

"Cause I get to say I told you so."

"Why is that?"

"Cause I told you I wouldn't be awkward around you today and I wasn't."

I smiled and didn't say a word as I put my car into reverse. We drove to my house in silence, only the sounds of the car on the road filled the silence. Liana said nothing, I caught her sneaking glances at me. She blushed when I caught her and I just smiled.
   We soon arrived at my house and Liana happily skipped up to the door. She waited for me this time though. She stood there patiently and waited for me to open the door. Walking in she was silent, and for Liana after school that was rare.

"You know you lost the bet don't you?"

"Yes."

"So why did you say earlier that you won?"

"Wanted to push your buttons. My plan backfired."

"That it did."

She turned to face me. Her face was serious, and her eyes were looking into mine. I wanted to walk up to her and kiss her again but I restrained myself. She was going to be staying here for the rest of the week, its probably best to not make her awkward around me on the first day.

"Luke, how many bedrooms does this house have?"

Her question took me offguard. I knew the answer to that question. She wasn't going to be too happy about the answer either.

"Two. One is mine obviously and the other one is well..."

"Is what?"

"I kind of turned it into an office so I could work on school stuff and whatnot."

"Where do the guys sleep when they stay over?"

"Wherever they crash."

"Great."

"You can have my bed if you want. I can sleep out here on the couch."

Slowly I moved towards her, stuffing my hands in my pockets. She looked everywhere but at me. I could tell she was a little bit nervous. Over what I had no idea.

"No, I'll sleep on the couch. It's your house, you should get to sleep in your bed."

"I don't mind sleeping on the couch Ana. As long as you're comfortable I'll sleep just fine."

"I'll be fine on the couch thank you."

"Alright. You're on the couch then."

She said nothing as I went to go find some blankets that she could use for the week. With me knowing she's down the hall it might be hard for me to sleep. I'll have to set my house alarm at night too. I don't want anything to happen to her while she's here.
