NINETEEN

She was beautiful as she slept. She looked so peaceful and not worried by anything. I'd hate to wake her. Only thing is that we have school so I have to. I'm not sure how to wake her though. I hold her tightly to my chest and I hear her take a sharp breath. Her body goes completely stiff.

"Morning sunshine."

"Morning Luke."

"What's your excuse for sleeping in my bed this time?"

"No excuse."

"Then why are you here again?"

"Because I couldn't sleep."

"I see. You decided that coming to sleep with me in my bed would help?"

"I guess so."

"Why is that?"

"I don't know."

"I think you do know."

"Why do you think that?"

"Because I know why I let you sleep here."

She said nothing. She stayed quiet for a long moment. She turned around in my arms. Her cheeks were flushed pink and she was biting her lip. Her eyes searched mine. What they were searching for I don't know.

"Why do you let me sleep here?"

"Because I like you. I like being close to you. I don't feel as lonely when you're around."

"Oh."

"Wish you felt the same though."

Why did I just say that?! That was meant to stay in my head! Now she's going to run from me. She'll never be this close to me again. Damn me and my mouth.

"What did you say?"

Shit. It's now or never I suppose.

"I said I wish you felt the same as me."

"Why would you want that?"

"Because I like you Ana and I wanna date you."

"Oh."

Oh? That's all she has to say? I got up out  of my bed and headed down the hall. I heard Ana scrambling behind me. Her footsteps were close but I didn't stop. I felt her hand grab around my forearm. Her touch sent shivers throughout my body. I didn't realize I had stopped until I looked down to see Ana in front of me with a confused look on her face.

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing. Why would anything be wrong?"

I tried to walk around her and into the kitchen but she placed a hand on my chest and I stopped.

"I said oh and you ran. Why?"

"Because I want to date you Liana. All you said was oh and it hurt."

"I'm sorry. No one has ever said that to me before."

"I'm sure you've had a boyfriend before."

She was silent, her hand dropped from my chest and her head fell to face the floor.

"You have had a boyfriend before right Liana?"

She stayed quiet. Slowly I saw her head shake from left to right. This beautiful girl has never had a boyfriend before. How is it possible? Then a thought popped into my head. I picked on her all last year. I made many mean jokes about her, rumors that weren't true. She's never had a boyfriend because everyone believed the nasty things I've said about her. Now here I am wanted to date her.

  I stared at her with disbelief. My head began to hurt with all the wrong things I've said to her and about her. I need to make everything right again. How to do that, is another thing. I couldn't bare the sight of her looking so sad anymore. I pulled Liana to my chest and held her tight. Her arms instantly went around my torso. We stayed like this for what seemed like forever. At one point though I remembered we had to get to school.

"Liana, we have to go to school today."

She shook her head against my chest. I smiled.

"Yes we do."

"Can we not though? I like being where I am right now."

My face split into a huge grin. I held her tighter to me and kissed her shoulder. I heard her breathe a sigh of relief and her body relaxed.

"You know it will go on your record as a missed day right?"

"Yeah but I don't care."
