Chapter 5 - Excuses

~Thursday night~

-Jerome's POV-

"Hey Eye, you coming to the party at Kaydee's tonight?" I asked as I ran down the stairs and plopped myself next to Eye who sat on the couch.

"No! Why would I?" She basically yelled at me. What did I say wrong?

"Ok, so what are your plans then?" I continued to question her. Can't drop the conversation.

"Well." She braked for dramatic effect. "Abi and Lachy are coming over to watch movies with me, since that's about all I can do." She replied frustrated, Throwing her head over the back of the couch.

"Cool, what's Addbrey doing?"

"You know they hate it when we say that but I don't know. Hey Jeeerrrroooommmeee, could you fetch me a water out of yhe fridge please." She begged with puppy dog eyes. I just rolled my eyes and got up and went over to the fridge.

Then the doorbell rang. "Door!" I heard Eyelyn yelled from the living room.

I heard heavy footsteps running down the stairs and then the door open.

"GUYS! CAN YOU LET ME IN!?" I heard Abi yell from outside the front door. I walked back into the living room and plopped myself back down next to Eyelyn. Closing my eyes for a few seconds.

"That's my seat." I heard Abi say from in front of me. Slowly opening my eyes I noticed that Abi didn't look to happy.

I opened my mouth to reply but before I could my phone buzzed in my hand. I looked down at it and saw it was a message from Mitch.

I read it aloud, big mistake. "Hey, I can't get to the party tonight my car broke down. Sorry 😅." BUT YOU DON'T HAVE A CAR!??!

"Jerome? What was that?" Vikk asked from the other couch.

"N-nothing. I'm not going to that party anymore." I replied as I leant my head on Eyelyn's shoulder.

"Boulder-dash! We'll go with you." Abi yelled pulling me off the couch.

"But........ No guys it's ok." I said rubbing the back of my neck. They don't want to go, they just feel bad for me.

"Come on." Lachlan said beginning to push me towards the door.

We all ended up out the door and Vikk locked the door behind him.

"Ha, now we have to go." He triumphantly yelled at me and Eyelyn, she really doesn't want to go, I can tell.

"But all I have to do is get the keys off you." I replied confused. Then Lachlan stepped infront of Vikk and glared at me. "Fine were going." I sighed. luckily we keep our skateboards outside.

~Once they got to the party (Around 7 ish)~

I walked into Kaydee's living room and scanned the room, I froze when I saw Mitch.

"M-m-m-moose." I said to the guys who were looking at me like I was crazy.

"Moose?" They all asked in unison. I watched as their eyes widened, then I felt something warm on my neck.

"Gross." Eyelyn complained walking away with Abi following close behind her.

I turned to see Mitch. Of course.

"Sorry babe, I got my car working a few minutes ago." I just nodded in response while thinking. You don't have a car.

He grabbed hold of my wrist and walked me to the couch. Once we were seated he grabbed hold of my shirt and smashed our lips together. His lips taste different.

We parted needing air, I needed seconds but Mitch pushed me away.

Then I said something I will always regret. "I'd rather you walk all over me then walk away." Mitch had an evil looking smirk on his face. He ruffled my hair and walked away from me.

At this point I was sitting on the couch by myself, I could tell Lachlan and Vikk were watching me though. Then they did something I didn't expect. They came and sat down with me.

"Jerome what's gotten into you?" Vikk asked worry in his voice, Lachlan started to giggle behind him but Vikk gave him a swift punch to make him quiet.

"I just don't want him to leave me." I shrugged at them, they both rolled their eyes at me. I checked my phone and saw that Mitch messaged me. "See ya." I said standing up and bolting out the back door.

Mitch had said to meet him at the tree in the back yard.

~Two hours later (9 ish)~

Mitch hadn't arrived.

I watched Abi and Eyelyn walk over to me. Quickly I wiped my face clean of tears and stood up off the grass.

"Vikk and Lachlan told us." Abi said when they were standing just in front of me.

"He didn't show. Did he?" Eyelyn continued from where Abi stopped.

"Don't worry I'm used to it." I shrugged.

"Time to go." Abi said as they both wrapped their arms around me and walked me through the crowd of people.

We all skated back to our street when we where outside our house I looked up at it and dreaded going in.

"Guys can I stay with you tonight?" I asked Abigail and Lachlan.

"Sure, you can stay anytime." Lachlan smiled at me.

I went inside and grabbed a travel bag that I always have prepared. Walking back down stairs and out of the house, everyone was waiting for me.

Lachlan kissed Vikk goodbye and we whizzed down the footpath.

We all have this unwritten rule about Lachlan and Vikk staying together on a school night. My thought about the rule got interrupted when I heard a door shut.

"Jerome, I'm going to message Eye and tell her to write a note and slip it under Mitch's door." Abi told me as she got her phone out of her back pocket.

"We think it's a good idea for you to break up with Mitch." Lachlan told me in a 'matter of fact' voice.

"O-o-ok." I replied in nearly an inaudible whisper.

~Midnight~

I couldn't sleep, I knew I wouldn't be able to.

It was done though I had broken up with Mitch and he knew about it.

Eyelyn had messaged Abi and told her that he was just laughing, like really loudly.

At this point I'm not even in the bed. I sat on the window sill staring up at the night sky. Listening to depressing love songs through my headphones.
