~Chloe’s P.O.V.

Ruby pulled out her phone from her back pocket and as I presumed, was checking the time. As I watched her scroll through and then start to type a short message to whomever, she began to chew at the bottom of her pink lips, making it puff up a bit. With an awkward start, Ruby says to me, “So there’s good news and bad news. Which do you wanna hear first?”

“What’s the good news?” I questioned with one raised eyebrow.

“Scott just texted me and he says that he’s waiting out at the front of the warehouse.” Hmph, so my gut feelings was correct… this was a warehouse.

“The bad?”

“We have… uh, exactly six minutes to get out.”

My eyes widened. “Six?”

She nodded, then frowned, “Now that I think of it, maybe five?”

“Ruby! That doesn’t help!” I snapped at her immediately.

She rolled her eyes and tried to reassure me with a simple, “Don’t worry! We have enough time,” excuse.

With that being said, I ran a hand through my matted hair - in an attempt to try to calm my fried, flustered nerves - which as a matter of fact, was beginning to grow greasy. I couldn’t wait to go home and take a long needed shower… I felt absolutely disgusting.

As Ruby went to the door and checked to see if any of Ryan’s guys were hanging about - she told me Scott had some distraction planned or whatever - I started to wonder why she was even helping me. After all, Ruby was the one that ratted me out in the first place… and this could all be a damn trap for all I know.

“Hey Ruby?”

“Yeah?” she hummed, opening the door with a light and gentle touch.

I didn’t really know how to word ‘So you know how you betrayed your own little sister? Ya. What changed your mind so that you’re helping her escape her quite obsessive and scary ex boyfriend?’ in a sane way so instead, I just asked her exactly what came to mind.

Ruby turned around, motioning for me that it was safe to leave the room. She was quiet for a moment, more than likely coming up with a reasonable answer.

“I didn’t know you were hurt by him…” I gave her a dumbfounded look. “...on a physical level I mean.” She was silent again before adding, “When you told me how he got his way with you, I totally lost it. I realized how I wasn’t there for you when you really needed an older sister, when you needed family.”

She lead the way down the corridors, sticking close to the hallway walls and I did the same in mimicking her. Now in a more hushed voice, she continues, “So after I found out, I couldn’t look at Ryan the same way anymore. The next thing I know, I found myself hating him on an immense level-” Same. “-and I didn’t want the past to repeat itself. You were right about everything Chloe. I was being a complete ass to you. You told me once that ‘family doesn’t do this to each other’. So there you have it little sis.” Ruby turned to face me, glaring straight at my face, “I was wrong, and now I’m going to fix things. I’m getting you the hell out of this dump.

I grinned, looking up at her. I felt a small sense of hope flaring somewhere inside me when I saw her smile back. It felt like... A match being lite for the first time, where it burns the brightest. Maybe we really did still stand a chance to bring back the trust between the two of us.
