Secrets and Decisions

"River, will you marry me?" I whisper.  

"Yes," he smiles at me and everything feels better. I smile back at him and hug him. Everything will be okay now. Matthew will leave me alone and I won't have to have kids anytime soon. I feel the huge weight gone from my shoulder and go down to tell my parents. 

As i walk down the stairs and turn the corner to go into the living-room I see both my parents and Matthew, but who is next to him is who I am worried about. How did... What? I look at all of them with confusion on my face. "Kate, I think you have some explaining to do," my father says in a stern voice as I look at the person. 

  "I'm sorry, Kate. Matthew said he was gonna hurt you so I thought it be better if I helps and... Now Matthew has an owie," little Aidan says and I have to hold back a laugh when I look back up at Matthew to see his left eye is a little swollen and his mouth is split open. I bite down on my lip and try to hide the emotion from my face. 

   "I think I can handle myself, buddy. But thank you for being a big strong boy and trying to help me, though," I ruffle his hair and look up at Matthew. "How did you do that to his face?" I ask and look back down at Aidan. He smiles at me and pulls me close so he can whisper in my ear. 

   "It wasn't actually me. It was Nick, but I threw the bag over his head so he thinks it's me. I's little so they won't punish me too bad," he pulls back and give me a little grin. I smile at him lightly. 

    "No, you cannot have a cookie. You hurt Matthew," I say sternly, trying to make it seem like he asked me for a cookie after he told me how he did it. My mom giggles and tries to hide it, but my dad's smirk is not lost. Matthew looks furious. 

    "I'm going to marry her, whether you like it or not, KID," Matthew hisses at Aidan and I stand up to get as close to eye level as I can and get close to him. 

    "You can't marry someone that is already engaged to another person," I say right in his face and hear my mother gasp and see his jaw set. 

   "That's where you are wrong. You see, I know things about you... I think an engagement can be called off," he says and looks at me with a dangerous look in his eye. Good thing before I came down to tell my parents the news I told Nick to let his cousin go and take her to a hospital. I did enough damage that she won't remember anything that happened, and Nick just found her helpless on the side of the road. 

   "I don't think you know anything about me, Matthew. Also, I will not call off my engagement to help your ego," I smirk up at him and see his fight leave his eyes. He understands, I don't have her anymore and there's no way to prove it was me since I'm in my living-room having this conversation right now. He frown and nods at me. 

   "I hope he is everything you need in a husband," he leaves with his head down and I slowly turn towards my parent. Behind them, is River, Nick, and Noah. Nick nods at me once and is secretly holding my brother's hand. So I was right. 

   "So, who wants to go first on the bombshells we'll be dropping on our parents tonight?" I ask Noah. He smiles at me. 

   "I guess I'll go. So, Mom and Dad... I'm gay and in love with Nick," he holds up their entwined hands and I see my dad pout. 

   "Crap! This means I owe you eighty dollars," my dad says to my mom. Mom smiles and pumps her first in the air. I look between them with a confused look and they shrug. River looks amused before looking at me with support in his eyes. 

   "My turn... So I'm marrying River," I step back into him and he holds me tight to him from behind. I see my mom's eyes swell with emotions and my dad's eyes squint. 

   "What are your intentions with my daughter, young man?" my dad asks and I face palm. 

    "Dadddddd," I says exasperated and River chuckles.
