CHAPTER 2 // ZOE

I wake up in my room, my body is numb and I struggle to even get up. As I slowly push myself up I see the marks my abusive mother has created on my body. I check the time and see I have over 10 text messages from Jonny. Oh no, he must be so angry at me. The texts say this;

J BOY:

Aye girl, whats up?

J BOY:

I understand if you are busy but just wanted to say today was AMAZING!!

J BOY:

Okay, it's been over 2 hours everything alright

J BOY:

Zoe?

J BOY:

Oh God Zoe, you got home safely right?

J BOY:

Dammit, I knew I should've walked you home!

J BOY:

Urgh I hope you are okay

J BOY:

Zoe!!!

J BOY:

Oh God

J BOY:

I swear if someone took you I will find you and make sure you're okay

J BOY:

Zoe please text me back

J BOY:

Zoe it's been over 3 hours now, where are you

J BOY:

God help you if something has happened Zoe

J BOY:

Zoeeeee

J BOY:

Zoe please be safe

J BOY:

Zoee this isn't funny

J BOY:

Zoe!

Oh my gosh, I feel terrible. I quickly reply back to Jonny reassuring him that I'm okay.

TO: J BOY:

Hey man, sorry I didn't reply I went to sleep as soon as I got home I was really tired, text me soon alright. Xx

I put my phone down and walked into my bathroom. I look in the mirror, and I look like a mess. My hair is everywhere, there are new born bruises spread out around my body. And the cuts on my wrist..oh the are so much worse. I can't remember clearly if I cut myself more or if my mother did it or both. I turn on the tap and place my wrist under the cold water. The pain is real as it stings and sends sparks of pain up and down my body. I grab bandages from the cupboard and place them on the top of the table. I strip off my clothes and go in the shower. The water soothes my body but also makes it sting. The cuts on my body ache, especially the ones on my wrists. I look down at my body and feel incredibly insecure about myself. I shouldn't have eaten so much yesterday, I think to myself. I need to start eating less. I step out of the shower and wrap the towel around my body. I step in front of the mirror and watch the water drip from my body. I slowly begin to dry my body being careful around the cuts and sore spots. When I get to my wrists a tear falls down my cheek.
"Why me," I sob.
"Why me.." I continue to sob.
I get changed and wrap the bandages around my wrists. I make sure my door and window is locked so nobody can come inside I turn the lights off and lie down on my bed. My phone flashes and I check the screen, Jonny has replied back. I smile to myself, this boy really does know how to make the moment better, I think to myself.

J BOY:

Oh it's okay, I just wanted to make sure you got home safely.

TO: J BOY:

Thank you Jonny, you truly are an incredible friend.

J BOY:

And so are you, I'm going to sleep now, I'll text you tomorrow xx

TO: J BOY:

Okay, good night Jonny, thank you for an amazing day xx

J BOY:

Good night Zoe, thank you for a fantastic day xx

I switch my phone off and roll onto my back, the pain in my body aches, but I ignore it as I try to get a good night's sleep.
