CHAPTER 14// ZOE

The security guard picks up is gun and points it towards my mother and I.
"Ma'am, you are going to have to put the knife down please," he says firmly. This gets Zack's attention and he starts to freak out.
"ZOE!" he says.
"QUIET!" my mother yells, "Or I'll cut her throat open!" Everybody shut's up. I try to look out the front window and see that the game ended. My heart beats a thousand miles an hour.
"Ma'am please," another security guard says. I hear footsteps up behind me, but nobody else has seemed to notice. Before I know it, the knife is taken away from my throat and I turn around to see Jonny holding my mother, her hands behind her head and the knife is kicked away.
"JONNY!" I scream out. The security guards go towards Jonny and put my mother in handcuffs. I run towards Jonny and hug him, tears rolling down my cheeks.
"Thank you so much," I say hugging him.
"I promised you I wouldn't let you get hurt by her," he says stroking my back.
"I nearly died," I say whimpering. "She nearly killed me, I nearly died. But you saved my life, again,"
Jonny continues to hug me and stroke my back. Zack awkwardly coughs and the hug is broken. He runs towards me and wraps his arms around my waist.
"You're safe," he whispers in my ear.
"We need to go back to Australia," is all I say to him. Jonny, Zack and I exit the stadium and make our way to our separate hotels. From there we go to the airport and get a plane back to Melbourne.

We arrive back at Melbourne airport and we go our separate ways.
"Text me when you get home," Jonny says as I hug him.
"I will," I say. Zack and Jonny shake hands and we head off to catch a taxi. Once we get to our apartment, I go straight to my room and sleep.
I wake up the next morning to hear two different voices in the kitchen. I make my way out of my bed and peak through the door, only to see Jonny and Zack talking.
"Her mother got out again," Jonny says.
"What are we going to do? How should we tell her?" Zack asks.
"I don't know, but we have to keep her safe, her mother is out there and she will try to hurt Zoe again, we can't let that happen," Jonny says firmly.
"Hire a security guard," Zack suggest.
"No, that will just cause attention. Just be careful whenever you go, always make sure your doors are locked and if she has to go somewhere make sure she is with someone at least," Jonny says.
"Okay," Zack says. Before they can say anything else I walk out.
"Morning," I say and make myself a cup of coffee.
"Morning," they both say nervously.
"Cut the crap, I already heard you guys before. My mother is out of prison," I say, the words hit me like a wrecking ball and I realise how real they are. They both look at the ground.
"We were gonna tell you-"Zack says.
"I know, but I just woke up and heard you guys say it," I say.
"I just have to be more careful then before and never go anywhere by myself until she is found," I say pouring the coffee. "Would you like some?" I offer them.
"No I'm alright, I better be going," Jonny says about to leave.
"Wait," I say and grab his arm, I look him the eyes, "You be careful to, my mother knows your face now and she knows you helped me," I say and hug him. He waves goodbye to Zack and I and leaves.
"You be careful to," I tell him. We drink the coffee spend the rest of the day indoors.

4 months pass and my mother hasn't showed up anywhere in my life. So Zack and I decide to head down to the waterfalls tomorrow to get out a little. We invite Jonny and Scott as well, once we get to the waterfalls I set out a picnic on the rocks and Zack takes the soccer ball out of the car. Scott and Jonny arrive as well, we greet them hello and strip down to our bathers. Zack is the first to jump in the water, Scott goes next, Jonny dives in and I carefully step in. We spend ages in the water just splashing around and having fun.
"I need to pee," Zack says and gets out of the water, he walks down the rocks and into the bush. The rest of us just laugh.
"Speaking of peeing, I need to go to," Scott says and quickly runs off down the rocks and into the bush. It is only Jonny and I left in the water. I splash him playfully and he splashes me, managing to get some in my mouth. I spit it out and try ignore the foul taste.
"What's the time?" I ask him.
"I don't know, I'll go check my phone, it's up there though," he says and points to the rocks.
"Go check it then," I say. He gets out of the water and I am just left by myself. I float on my back and feel the cool water down the feet and fingers. Then suddenly I hear a splash in the water, before I can properly react I am dragged down. Down, down, down I go, further and further away from the shore. I try to push away whatever is dragging me but nothing works.
Before I know it, everything goes black.
