Delirious

Lily had given me a few minutes to try and process the information but that wasn't nearly enough. I needed more like a whole month to understand such a curt statement. It was the biggest bomb drop on me ever and my mind is still reeling.

'Logan killed someone' was all she said when I let her into my room this morning. No explanation, no warning, no 'brace for something shocking'. She just spit that information at me and let my mind roam for a few minutes. My brain was already coming up with different scenarios as to what happened and why Logan would kill someone. I even thought that she was lying, there was no way that Logan could take someone's life. He might be an asshole but he wouldn't do that.

Then my thoughts went dark and to a place where I didn't want to go. What if Logan killed Donnie. It seemed plausible, he hated Donnie. I'd never seen Logan truly mad before so maybe it was possible for him to black out in rage and murder one of my friends.

"You have to believe me, Ella. I-I can't be the only one to know this." Still, I was silent. I took in all of what she said and waited for her to tell me that it was all a sick joke but the punchline never came. Lily was being dead serious. If it wasn't for her dark circles, frazzled hair and shaking in her hands, I might not have believed her so quickly.

"What do you mean he killed someone? Lily, what did you see?"

She forcibly swallowed and rubbed at the base of her neck as if that would help her find the words to say. The words that would magically make this all right. Or perhaps the words that would say it was all a joke but from the look in her eyes, we both knew that what she saw, or what she thought she saw, was real.

"I went down to the kitchen last night and Logan, h-he was hovering over someone. I thought that maybe he was just beating someone up, maybe someone pissed him off again,- he's always had anger issues." She paused, closing her eyes and gathering her thoughts. "I saw the knife just before he s-stabbed him." As she opened her eyes, a tear fell from the left eye and she quickly brushed it away.

"Are you sure? It was dark, right. Maybe you saw something else-,"

"I know what a bloody knife being ripped from someone's chest looks like, Ella!" She snapped. A stray piece of hair fell into her eyes and she calmly tucked it back into place, composing herself again. "I know what I saw. I wish I didn't but I did. I came to you because you're the only person that might be able to fix this."

I shook my head frantically. "How am I supposed to-,"

"He loves you, Ella."

"That means nothing when you're a murderer. I'm calling the police." I reached for my cell phone but Lily grabbed my arm and yanked me back towards her.

"I did not come to you just so you could call the police. I sat with my phone in my hand all night and debated it. I just got my brother back, I'm not losing him again." More tears fell from her eyes as she was flooded with emotion. I'm sure I looked just as crazy as her, a few tears of my own had ruined my mascara and stained my cheeks. "I've already been down there this morning to check it out. Nothing looks out of place."

"If what you're saying is true, then we need to look into it more before we tell anyone else. When we get the whole story, then we decide who gets to know which should be the police." She frowned at me. "I know, Lily, that's the last option I want to go with but do you know how much trouble we could get in if this got out and someone finds out that we know? It would be the right thing to do and you know it." She nodded, agreeing with me.

Never in my life did I think I'd be going to investigate a possible crime scene that my boss-slash-ex boyfriend may or may not have caused. Logan didn't seem like the type. Sure, he was harsh and crude but never in a million years did I think he'd have enough anger to kills someone. I hope to god it wasn't my fault. I know in theory, it isn't my fault that he may or may not have killed someone but is it possible that I drove him to his boiling point? I slept with his gardener and he caught me, he had a right to be mad at me but in my defense, he slept with someone else first.
