The Mask

CHAPTER 15

Jennifer woke up late in the morning knowing that she's only dreaming. All the nightmares that she believed and suffered through were just a dream in her dream. She rushed into her parents and asked them, "Mom Dad, pinch me please".

"Why?", both of her parents asked her.

"Because I want to know if this is only a dream in my dream", Jennifer answered back.

Her mom pinched her as she sighed and she never felt more relieved that she is not in one of her nightmares.

After a few hours, Anna decided to walk into the neighborhood to get to know other people and find something to eat.

Anna called Jennifer and she said "Jennifer! come downstairs I will ask you something".

Jennifer replied back "Okay! I'll be there in a minute". After a few minutes, Jennifer is rushing down the stairs and went to her mom. "What will you say, mom?".

"Do you want to go out and find someplace to eat with me and your father?". Anna said. Jennifer felt excited and she said, "Yeah sure!".

Her mom already knew what she would say. "Okay change your clothes and get ready I will wait for you outside".

Jennifer is having a hard time what to wear, as she searched her clothes in her wardrobe. She wears a crop top paired with a silver necklace and high waisted ripped jeans paired with her black boots as she puts her hair into a messy bun. After a few minutes of preparation, Jennifer went out of the house and she saw her mom waiting for her. When her mother saw her she complimented her and she said: "You look gorgeous today".

"Thanks, mom!" she replied back.

"So, are you ready?". Her mother asked

"Yes, mom!". Jennifer said excitedly.

Then they went out on a sunny day walking in the streets and saying hi to every person. While walking they saw a restaurant and they started to feel hungry. They went to a fast-food restaurant and it looked so big, the food inside could be smelt over a long distance and their food looked so good just from the pictures. They went inside this restaurant and they're shocked because there were many people eating there. They think that it's a good restaurant. So they went immediately to the cashier to ask for the menu. After they picked their food they went in the shortest line. After a few minutes of standing, it's their turn to order now. While her mom is ordering her eyes are wandering all over the place and out of nowhere, she had a bad feeling about the restaurant. After ordering they went to the table at the very far corner of the restaurant where no one is sitting and on that corner, Jennifer can see everything. They sat in the corner and waited for their food.

After an awkward silence Jennifer breaks it by asking her parents "Mom, Dad I have a bad feeling about this restaurant", she said.

"Why Jennifer?", Trevor said confused.

"It's like there are some spirits or ghost wandering around this restaurant", she said worrying.

"Don't worry my dear your father and I are here to protect you", Anna said reassuring her.

Finally, the food was served to their table and they started eating but on one glimpse Jennifer saw a person walking through a person and this scenario got her confused. She asked her mom, "Mom is this real? Or I'm just hallucinating". she said with a confused tone. Her mom replied, "Yes of course, and why would you think it's not. I can touch you, my daughter".

She felt weird and kind of suspicious, she excused herself and she said: "Wait for me, I will just try something out".

Jennifer stood up and ran to the person that is walking through another person and when she ran past him. She also went through him which only means that she is also a soul. She could not believe what was happening. Her face becomes pale as she is terrified and shocked about what just happened, even her body is shaking. She ran outside the restaurant while crying and the people who were in the restaurant looked at her with a confused expression but she didn't seem to care. She wants to try settling the feelings inside of her.

"Why did my parents lie to me?!" she thought to herself.

"Why did they keep it a secret from me?!" she thought.

Her parents tried to stop her but they couldn't catch up to her due to her fast pace.

"Jennifer! Stop! Please, we will explain everything to you!", Trevor shouted but unfortunately, Jennifer didn't look back at them and she pretended that she didn't hear her father's voice.

Her parents didn't catch up. Anna stopped running so she could catch her breath.

"Trevor I'm scared", Anna said shakily.

"Why Anna?", Trevor asked with a bit of concern.

"What if she doesn't come back again? What if she doesn't love us anymore? What if she will not believe us after we explained it to her? What if-", Trevor stopped Anna by putting his finger on her lips.

"Shhh... Don't worry Anna just think positive, I know that she will never do that again. Maybe she just needs some space to move on about the situation she's in and she will come back to us. I know it", Trevor said with an assuring smile. He hugs her wife and Anna calmed herself slowly and after that, they went home.
