THE TWO GIRLS WALK UP to the woman at the desk and they hand her their folders. "hi, i'm looking for miss. james," rory speaks up after a moment of silence.
miss. james looks up from her paperwork and looks at the two girls, "names?" she asks them.
"i'm victoria gilmore and this is my sister rory gilmore," tori smiles at her.
miss. james stares at her then hands them their papers, "fill this out please," she tells them then she gets up and walks away.
tori turns to look at rory, "well, isn't she just lovely," miss. james walks back over with two packets of paper. "here's the dining room, the science hall, and the theater. here's your locker number, here's your schedule, take this map. heres the rules of the school and the chilton honor code. here are the words to the school song, which must be recited upon demand. this can happen at any place, any time. if you do it in latin you get extra credit. do either of you have any questions?" she asks them.
"uh, not at the moment?"
"if you do, you can make an appointment to see your guidance counselor, mr. winters. he handles everything but bulimia and pregnancy. for that, you'll have to go to the nurse or coach rubens. welcome to chilton." she smiles at the two.

tori and rory had the same first block, english lit. "and while french culture was the dominant outside cultural influence, especially for russia's monied class, english culture also had its impact. tolstoy's favorite author, for instance was..."
a blonde girl's hand sitting in the front of the class shot up, "dickens."
"yes. and of course, last week we discovered dostoevski's main authorial influences..." mr. remmy asks the class again only for the same girl to answer him, "george sand and balzac."
"good. as tolstoy commenced writhing both war and peace and anna karenina, count leo would turn to..."
again the same girl raised her hand, "david copperfield," tori was starting to get irritated. she hated when a person answered a question the teacher asked without giving anyone else a chance. granted the only other person to answer a teacher at stars hollow high was rory, it still bugged her.
"correct. he would turn to david copperfield for inspiration," mr. remmy's next sentence gets cut off as the door opens and a boy walks in.
mr. remmy looks to see who opened the door "ah, mr. dugray."
the blond boy hands the teacher a note, "sir."
the teachers takes the note and reads it, "nice to have you back. i hope your grandfather's better."
"much better sir," he replies.
"good. take your seat please."
the blond boy, who's first name has yet to be said walks past tori to get to his seat. rory shifts uncomfortably while he stares at her sister.
the teacher carries on with his lesson, "great expectations, a tale of two cities, little dorrit, all major influences on leo tolstoy. tomorrow we will focus on writing styles of these two literary masters, tolstoy and dickens." then the bell rings dismissing the students. tori gets up from her seat and walks over to her sister.
